Should women sign up for the military draft at 18?
Currently it is the law of the USA that all young men at the age of 18 sign up for the military draft. In the age of men and women being equal in pay and everything else, should it be mandatory that young women at age 18 sign up for the military draft?

Or should women not be considered equal in military service? Since new life comes through the female of the species, should women be exempt from the military draft?

2. Todays' All Volunteer Force is non-discriminatory when it comes to recruiting cannon-fodder.
Unfortunately 30% of all women in the Armed Services are raped or physically abused.

3. That's a bridge to cross when the draft gets reinstated.
There will be a huge thunderous debate when the time comes. I personally think that men shouldn't have to register for military duty.

6. Sure - as soon as we pass the ERA.
The amendment was defeated largely because the right screamed that if it passes "Girls will be eligible for the draft and we can't have that".

9. Honestly, I question why we still insist on all men signing up
at 18. The DOD seems insistant on keeping our Army all vikunteer, so it makes sense to me that NOBODY should have to register.

BUT, if we're going to insist on all men registering, it should be ALL 18 year olds, withough exception. I fought very hard through the 60's, 70's & 80's, to gain equal rights for women, and I think this is one of the unintended consequences.

10. Just as soon as men are able to get pregnant.
The safest years for childbearing are 18-26. Putting young women into double jeopardy by sticking them with military service and delaying childbirth, making it more dangerous, is beyond stupid.

Yes, not all women will become pregnant. Not all men will be in the military and of those that are, relatively few will fight wars.

However, it makes no sense for the species to force young women into military service during their prime childbearing years.

In addition, the statistics for assault by fellow soldiers are appalling. Do we really want to throw our young women into that?

That does not mean that women have to be in combat---that's another argument.

17. In all fairness, probably. But a better solution would be to end wars of
aggression on our part and bring the troops home.

Perhaps all young people should be drafted into a year or two of PUBLIC SERVICE a la Habitat for Humanity, Peace Corps, etc.

25. I think women should have to sign up for the draft, yes
Even if women can't fight on the front lines, my understanding is that a MASSIVE part of the military is run from behind a desk, and if we had another crisis like World War II there's no reason why a woman shouldn't free up an able-bodied man for combat duty.

Make conservative old farts fight for their lives in Afghanistan, not young people.
