The last snow shower of 6/10 (last of the year, we all hope)

Yesterday, 0500 (AM)

The "Hood" today. I did not like this shopped version, but many on my blog list raved

This was the original Mt. Hood image. Mt. Hood, 137 miles away. Clear day? Wait 'til the last photo.

Some old fart sitting in a fire lookout tower channeling Jack Kerouac

I've been aced! A dear old friend (and fellow airline captain) took this snap from the cockpit of his Airbus A-320 this morning departing SEA. Mt. Ranier and the Cascade giants. (His copyright is in the metadata - I have permission to use this image)

3. Thanks! Mt. Hood was "cloud hidden, whereabouts unknown" when I was near there recently. BTW
"old fart" wouldn't happen to be a painter of mandala murals in friends' houses would he? . . . looks like a friend of someone I know.

16. Wow, I just noticed that the first shot is a *double* rainbow
Or is that refraction within the snow shower itself and not a normal rainbow?

Either way, it's pretty cool.

19. No, it is a double rainbow - I missed the peak
And remember, I'm at 6500 feet. The snow line was probably 6000 feet. So shooting down, the rainbow was probably in - well -rain. I'm not sure if you can get a rainbow in snow. I doubt it.

Once it warms up, the pic quality should improve (ie, I can take more time outside setting up).

21. Well we are going for our hike tomorrow
finished packing all the supplies into my back pack. I am sure we will bring back most of the granola, but we have enough food rations for 24 hours...

And Tom will carry the camera, so he will be taking photos while I just enjoy our time away from the city. He is taking a Lensatic compass I am taking a Silva. I hate the Lensatic jobbies. always have hated them.

(Yes well marked trails, I have not done land nav in a long time, so a safe place to get some practice)

I was going through my list of supplies going... I KNOW why I am carrying all this crap... BUT... you'd better carry all this crap.

Chances are we will bring all this back, sans water, and some granola, but hey... I am even taking fifty feet of paracord. Great for emergency Shelters and believe it or not, emergency splints... Of course as a diabetic I am also taking the glucometer... for obvious reasons.

Havocdad says we should put in a solar powered pump to get your water to your quarters. And maybe a lift for the dog. LOL. He's all about moving water up hill and making life as comfy for dogs as possible.

But I have my eye on a small Honda gasoline pump

Edited on Sun Jun-13-10 01:40 AM by havocmom
He moves H2O up 600 feet with solar pumps from time to time. Does 250 feet up regularly.

Says to talk to local NRCS tech people. They solve water engineering problems all the time, or SHOULD be doing that. He does.

The closest is Rainer? The next Hood?

37. I think the curvature you see is camera spherical aberration.
It's spherical aberration from the camera lens or from the effect of shooting through the cockpit window of the Airbus.
