From the Ground: BP Censoring Media, Destroying Evidence
Source: Huffington Post

...... BP is using federal agencies to shield itself from public accountability.

For example, while flying on a small plane from New Orleans to Orange Beach, the pilot suddenly exclaimed, "Look at that!" The thin red line marking the federal flight restrictions of 3,000 feet over the oiled Gulf region had just jumped to include the coastal barrier islands off Alabama.

"There's only one reason for that," the pilot said. "BP doesn't want the media taking pictures of oil on the beaches. You should see the oil that's about six miles off the coast," he said grimly. We looked down at the wavy orange boom surrounding the islands below us. The pilot shook his head. "There's no way those booms are going to stop what's offshore from hitting those beaches."

BP knows this as well -- boom can only deflect oil under the calmest of sea conditions, not barricade it -- so they have stepped up their already aggressive effort to control what the public sees.

.............

With oil undisputedly hitting the beaches and the number of dead wildlife mounting, BP is switching tactics. In Orange Beach, people told me BP wouldn't let them collect carcasses. Instead, the company was raking up carcasses of oiled seabirds. "The heads separate from the bodies," one upset resident told me. "There's no way those birds are going to be autopsied. BP is destroying evidence!"

3. BP doesn't own the Gulf or the shoreline...the American people do!
WTF?! Here's another example of why granting corporations "personhood" in the Citizens United case was a bad, bad move. Our democracy is under attack!

26. Help me understand....
I keep reading and hearing about how B.P. is blocking everything and everyone they can. But how? What if a citizen walks down with a video camera and starts recording. What are they doing to them? How do they remove them?

What if a hundred people do this. What will they do? What if a media crew records these 100 people instead I wonder? Are they physically removing them or threatening them? The citizens didn't sign anything with B.P. Man, I wish I lived down there. I would really want to see what the hell is going on and record it.

I'm baffled. (I also probably need to do some digging of my own to find out what B.P. is doing to obstruct).

28. What would happen
is the coast guard and police would tell them, in no uncertain terms, to fuck off.
If they didn't they'd probably get shot. And I'd be willing to bet someone on here would defend it.

The sky is blue and water is wet, now back to anti-global warming propaganda... BTW, natural gas is clean and safe for the environment and so are nuclear power plants and the micro particles they emit. I know this because the giant power companies and oil companies told me so.

7. I can understand why BP wants to hide this,
but what troubles me most, that despite the rhetoric to the contrary, the Govt is allowing this to continue.

Anderson Cooper's report last night on suppression of the press was, to say the least, chilling.

You know things are really getting grim when the corporately owned Media starts complaining about their overlords.

it's like top secret shit going on hiding the dead dolphin and manatee and whales..a friend of mine in the Military in Fla told me it is a major cover up of the dead dolphin, manatee and whales.

It is an utter disgrace how this government of ours is hiding the truth!

It's a very sad reflection of our inability to govern our own democracy when BP continues to be allowed to "run the show".

25. Commercial flight restrictions are so observation flights are clear to operate
My husbands company is maxed out of helicopters flying people along the beaches looking for oil, animals affected etc. The flights are carrying observers from environmental groups, press, as well as BP officials. The FAA is putting restrictions on commercial flights to allow the flights involved in the cleanup to operate safely.

BP deserves a lot of criticism for things that have been done, but getting the FAA involved in helping them cover up oily beaches is not one of them.

I come here for the truth. When I see wrongdoing, I do not fear pointing it out and condemning it, but I want to be sure that I am in the right when I do so.
