So nice of GE and Morning Ho' to catapult corporate propaganda.
I'm rarely home at this hour to watch this shite, but I'm working from home today after a bout of sickness, so it's on (and about to be turned off).

Intern-killer and his Vodka-swilling sidekick are on the beaches of Pensacola, FL. touting how clean and pristine the water is (laughable, considering their MSNBC's own morning weather-now-oil-slick-prediction guy just reported that the sheen was less than five miles off the coast of Pensacola). They keep pointing out that people should be down there enjoying the beaches and the show is even providing, gasp, discounts for food, hotel rooms, keepsakes, etc. if you mention you heard it on their show. And, finally, the bumper music is all dreamy beach/vacation music, such as the Beach Boys, the Beachcombers, etc.

How can any "news" organization, particularly one that also allows Schultz, Olbermann and Maddow to host shows, consider promoting tourism to unsuspecting Americans into an area in which any skin contact with the oil and/or dispersants can cause humans irreparable damage?

Sickening.

1. If you really support the people working on the coasts - go and support them by tourism

2. the fact that the oil sheen was 5 miles off coast was clearly mentioned on the show
Edited on Fri Jun-11-10 07:03 AM by DrDan
and the reason they are broadcasting from there is to bring attention to the catastrophe - not as tour agents

forgot to mention - just finished a lengthy segment with Jeff Corwin on the impact to the beach and wildlife.

Also had the governors of Florida and Alabama to discuss what they are doing and the impact.

4. Then why the peppy bumper music?
And I do support the people working the coast, but BP should be taking care of them - not the skin of my family and I.

The only way I'd go down there is to clean oil-slickened animals.

8. It sets the tone.
Yes, they are talking about the problems, but they are also peppering it with "come on down, the water's fine" crap.

It's not fine.

3. There undoubtedly are areas that are (currently) untouched...
but given the lies and the conflicting interests, I can appreciate your concern... Is the average vacationer supposed to bring a team of environmental scientists with them to check and monitor the water.... I realize these governors (Crist and the gov of Alabama) have a real dilemma if they can't promote tourism--even to safer areas--but they ought to be manning these "pristine" beaches with their own environmental quality teams and show the monitoring data that PROVES they are safe, if they hope to reassure the public. Jackasses like Barbour-MS Governor-Rethug are their own worst enemy given his obvious penchance for saying ANYTHING, whether obviously false or not.

7. Great points.
Now, they need to get this mayorial candidate off the air... government is failing because HIS party tied government's hands. The problem is Multi-national corporations who are going unchecked.
