Lisa P. Jackson On Monday and Tuesday President Obama will travel to Florida, Mississippi and Alabama to meet with residents and responders, assess the ongoing efforts, and continue to hold BP responsible to the Gulf Coast communities, families and businesses.

Lisa P. Jackson In the midst of the largest environmental disaster our nation has ever seen, the "disapproval resolution" would increase our dependence on oil and be a major setback back for us in our push for clean energy. I addressed this, and other matters, this morning with small business owners.

"Administrator Jackson: “Keep moving America forward into energy independence”

In remarks to a group of small business owners, Administrator Jackson outlined steps EPA and the Obama Administration have taken to help small businesses thrive, and steps that have been taken to protect small business in the Gulf Region from the impacts of the BP Spill. The Administrator also outlined the impact of a so-called “disapproval resolution” of the EPA’s endangerment finding in the Senate – a resolution that would undermine EPA’s common-sense approach to addressing climate change, move America a big step backward in the race for clean energy and “double down on the energy and environmental policies that feed our oil addiction.” She noted that increasing our oil addiction “…at the very moment a massive spill – the largest environmental disaster in American history – is devastating families and businesses and destroying wetlands is contrary to our national interests.” Administrator Jackson also reminded these small businesses that EPA has finalized a rule specifically designed to protect them from regulation – focusing EPA’s efforts on the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions, like power plants and oil refineries."
