10. Gee, what a surprise. Since they're always talking about
"personal responsibility" and "property rights" and "law and order" and all that, you'd think they'd have no problem with it. And if this were the other way around, they'd be in a frothing frenzy over it. Hypocrisy with a capital H.

5. I gotta admit that I
turned over Laura Bush's book yesterday. It was an instinctual act...as if I couldn't help myself. Childish, OK.

7. That's one thing. It seems the rightos are actually destroying property.
You can always count on rightists to do something that's 100x more awful than what lefties do and STILL try to play the equivalence card. (As you'll see in the OP article's comment section)

9. This is one thing that really bothers me. I don't like conservative
books any more than I'd wager most conservatives like books on Kennedy or other liberal books. But, in a bookstore, I have absolutely NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER to flip them over, hide them, move them to an obscure spot, etc., etc., etc. Not just because it's not my property to do with as I please, but because I have no right to determine for others what they can and cannot read.

Notice I said CANNOT and not should. There's a huge difference. I can recommend or talk down a book to whoever I want, as to what they could or should read. I have no right to actually make that determination for them or to do anything to the books, no matter how strongly I may feel or how crazy it may drive me to see conservative books displayed prominently in a bookstore (as they are sometimes at the Barnes and Noble and Borders here in SD). I suppose I could buy them and THEN do what I want with them, but I ain't gonna waste the money or give the sales figure to the book, lol.

People from either side who vandalize and deface books in a bookstore should be required to buy the book(s); if they refuse, then they need to be charged with vandalism. Until they buy the book, it is NOT their property. So, I hope this store goes after whoever does this if they continue.

11. I disagree with you on one point only.
They should not be given a chance to buy the book they defaced. They should be charged with destruction of property.

15. DU is mentioned in the comments at the link.
A conservative cites us and dailykos as reveling in this kind of behavior. As a library worker, I admit I've fantasized about "finding" damaged copies of Beck's book (which circulates often in the Troll Town where I work). But I would never, ever do it!

Aside from the censorship that would produce, it would waste taxpayers' dollars by having bought the book and then buying another. I also wouldn't want Beck to make any more profit from the book. If it's kept free and circulating at the library, that's one more book sale Beck loses.

That's the difference between liberals and conservatives. Liberals can see causal relationships and make those systemic connections. Conservatives see only what affects them directly.

So it is not just the right wing. I do not agree with defacing the merchandise, but rearranging it,

19. A fool-proof solution to this problem:
When a conservative is observed defacing liberal books, simply grasp their middle finger firmly and bend it back until it touches their wristwatch.

They won't do it again.
