Just heard on MSNBC. I say "Bring it on."

The Gulf of Mexico is coated with gunk. You can't hide the gunk or the blatant and cynical corruption and influence buying that precipitated this event.

5. Guys, You and the other two who have responded thus far. This is just way too simplistic.
Sure consumption is part of the problem but so also is the CORRUPTION. There is much that can be done by all parties, including changing consumption, to be better citizens of the planet. Consumption can only change if there is a will to invest in alternatives that are affordable and the technologies that use them. Then corruption will follow in those industries as well. Do not assume that green energy will be the end of corruption in energy production and distribution. It is as much about those who seek to profit at the expense of others and those who are willing to sell influence to grease the skids for them.

6. PM Cameron is calling Obama this weekend so he won't pick on BP
David Cameron is to discuss the oil spill crisis with President Barack Obama, after shares in BP plunged to their lowest level in more than 13 years this morning.
A spokesman for the prime minister said he was "sure" that the pair would speak about BP during a telephone call this weekend, in a further sign that the Deepwater Horizon disaster has now escalated into a political issue.

"The prime minister understands that there are many people who are angry and emotional about what has happened," said Cameron's official spokesman.

"This is an environmental tragedy and the impact will be much broader than the environmental impact, and that is why we are encouraging BP to find a solution as soon as possible," he added.

7. Guess That $50 Million Pay Off To The Corporate Media Isn't Working...
Those ads with Tiny Tony are pathetic, but I'm sure CNN and Faux and GE/MSNBC loved the nice cash windfall...the soften up some of the coverage, but looks like the company's image got yet another black eye trying to make nice commercials while most of us are still seeing the other BP commercial...the non-stop gushing from 5,000 feet below the Gulf.

BP's already set for a showdown...in the courts. They've been judge shopping and probably have as many lawyers working on this mess as oil workers. Their goal is to pay as little as they have to over the longest period of time.

9. Well with the way this White House negotiates...
...which is starting from a point of massive concessions right from the get-go, and then giving even more after the negotiations are done, it probably is BP's best approach.

10. It would be one thing if BP had a history of being a good corporate citizen
but it doesn't. If BP had a good safety record, and had obviously done everything by the book and not taken any short cuts that sacrificed safety to save money, it might be a different story.

But BP has NEVER played by the book. OSHA's largest fine ever was to BP for it's accident at the Texas City refinery. $86 million, I believe. 15 people died, a lot of injuries. Now 11 more have died, more injuries, they've devastated the wildlife in the area, caused injury to innocent people by cutting off their livelihoods, and decimated the environment for years.

BP is not a good corporate citizen, and it has a long history of not being a good corporate citizen. I say tough shit. BP probably should be put out of business as a lesson to other oil companies to not take chances like this.

11. AC Transit (buses) is cutting back on services in the Bay Area
Years ago I used to take the bus to work, then they eliminated the bus line. At that point it was equidistant for me to drive to the nearest BART or to work. Now they're cutting even more.

12. If Obama makes the spill a NATIONAL SECURITY issue, he can have Hayward in stocks by sundown.
Seriously. I'm not advocating that or oily-waterboarding.

Just sayin' tho.

13. BP oil disaster worse than we are being told
Not only is more oil leaking than we have been told by the corporations and their corporate media, there may be up to three oil leaks in the gulf in addition to the three at the Deepwater Horizon site. Furthermore, this means more than just fouled beaches and dead marine life. Oil can clog the intakes of water from the Gulf that is used to cool coal and nuclear power plants, resulting in power outages. It can also clog the intakes of desalinization plants that use reverse osmosis to produce drinking for cities on the GUlf coast.
