Murkowski's "Dirty Air Act": Senate vote tomorrow---call legislators!
From Environmental Defense Action Fund <takeaction@edf.org>

Dear Wordpix,

You would think the Gulf Coast disaster would inspire the Senate to pass a strong climate and energy bill.
Instead, they are poised to vote to weaken EPA's authority to hold polluters accountable.
Take Action: Urge your Senators to VOTE NO on Murkowski and VOTE YES on a strong climate and energy bill!

Only in Washington would you even consider voting on a bill to weaken environmental protections and to let polluters off the hook during the worst single-event environmental catastrophe in American history.

But that's exactly what the Senate is scheduled to do tomorrow when it will vote on a terrible bill offered by Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) that would strip the Environmental Protection Agency of its authority to cut carbon pollution and hold Big Polluters accountable.

And using a rarely used legislative tactic in the Senate, Murkowski only needs a simple majority of 51 votes to pass her "Dirty Air Act." It appears the vote could be extremely close with a few wavering votes that could make the difference.

Please Take Action Today: Urge your Senators to VOTE NO on the terrible Murkowski bill and to VOTE YES on a strong climate and energy bill.

Even if you have already emailed you Senators on this, now is the time to make sure they are getting the message.

Background

Oil continues to gush into the Gulf, adding to what is already America's worst single-event environmental catastrophe in history.

Some Senators understand that this disaster makes it even more critical that we pass a strong climate and energy bill to end our over-dependence on oil and other fossil fuels.

But far too many don't seem to get it and are poised to vote tomorrow to let polluters off the hook and strip EPA of its authority to regulate carbon pollution.

Make no mistake -- any vote for this bill is a vote for Big Oil and Big Polluters.

Ironically, the Senate Democratic leadership is also meeting tomorrow to discuss its strategy to move energy legislation this summer.

At stake is whether they will proceed with a comprehensive climate and energy bill or whether they'll take up a watered down energy bill that fails to address the climate crisis or end our over-dependence on oil and other fossil fuels.

We need your help to make sure every Senator gets the message. This is a time to hold polluters accountable, not to let them off the hook.

Please Take Action Today: Urge your Senators to VOTE NO on the terrible Murkowski bill and to VOTE YES on a strong climate and energy bill.

Thank you for your activism and support,
Environmental Defense Action Fund

1. "Murkowski only needs a simple majority of 51 votes to pass her 'Dirty Air Act.'"
Imagine that?
