Oiled pelicans story on NPR

i'm not going to say this story made me cry, because it didn't. But if a story about oiled pelicans could make me cry it would be this one. A biologist has trouble talking because the situation makes her cry.

Pelicans aren't leaving the nesting ground because their eggs and young are there. So they go out and fish in the oiled waters to get food to bring back to their young. Many get oiled and die and then their young starve. When the rescuers choose which birds to rescue, they choose non-parents because if they take parents away then the chicks will die.

I'll let the smilie cry for me. :cry:

I also saw a segment on this group on CSPAN WJ this morning. Vid from the past couple of days. I could not hold back the tears while watching these dedicated people caring so well for these poor poor creatures. There's a lot of crappy people in our news right now, but these people are real and caring and on the scene helping save what they can - iow, heroes.
