Helen Thomas is 89; Betty White is 88.5

Why don't we all push to have their DNA preserved for the future, when two dynamic women such as these two can be "reborn" and kick ass as they have all their lives?

It's amazing to see both these women still in control of their own destinies. And who have, in one way or another, dispelled all doubt that there is life after 50!

There are many who will never see the age of these two women, but their continued living sparks, I think, a desire for many of us to be as wonderfully outspoken and lucid as they are, at any age. Helen Thomas is "retiring" at almost 90.....twenty-five years past the retirement age! And Betty White is essentially coming OUT of retirement at the urging of her fans.

I honestly hope that we can always hold both women, both activists, and both outspoken critics of stupidity, intolerance and cruelty in the country, up to people and show what a clear conscience, honesty and determination can accomplish.

I'm so glad they're both on our side!

It's amazing to me. I'm sure you were a strong supporter of hers when she was asking tough questions during the Bush administraton that nobody else would ask, and you are going to piss all that away because of one stupid thing that she said?

18. Look, I didn't write this thread to be about Israel, Palastine

or any middle eastern wars, tensions, or anything about hate or strife, or anything of that drift.

I wrote this thread in awe of these women being of an age where most people, including one self-deluded fool of a president, are doddering shadows of their former selves, and who hang up their capes and swords for good.

I wrote this because most of us will never make it to 80, nevermind almost 10 years beyond that. And most of us are already of a mind that life is passing way too fast, and it's time to grab a few years of recreation before we get the hell out of the rat race.

I'm 54, and I'm out of the rat race for good, and if I see another 10 years, it will be a miracle. I wish I had the stamina of these women. I wish I had even 1/10th of the impact they have made on society, and I know I never will.

Please don't make this thread be about the middle east. Because it isn't about that. Because not everything written is about that. Because nothing is just black or white. Because there is NO absolute. Because every single one of us has said something that they have regretted saying at some time in their lives. Because no matter what, simply living to be 89 is a fantastic accomplishment in this world.
