That clip has been shown over and over.

I found it very affecting.

11. Filming it *is* helping. A lot.
BP (and, sadly, the oil-owned coastal state governors) are doing everything in their power to make sure as little of this apocalypse is documented as possible.

I needs to be documented. Extensively.

2. I know I'll probably get grief for saying this, but
the only way I can maintain my sanity after viewing such images is to think that the poor birds (et al) probably think they did something stupid to get themselves into that situation, that they're not thinking "Those stupid fucking humans! How could they do this to us! Grrrrr!!!"

So in their case, ignorance probably really is ... well, not bliss, but at least they're not engulfed with rage like we are when we see them.

Seriously, it's the only way I can refrain from losing my mind over this.

17. WE all know what we must do...
We must bite the bullet and be done with oil...will we do it? NO! We will not! Considering our political system, it cannot be done! A dictator could do it...a dictator who was not controlled by the the electorial system...and he would be hated! But such a dictator could do it. Can our president do it. No, he cannot! Our democratic system will not allow us to deal with this problem in the way we must to continue. Jesus, we have ongoing cable discussion on if our presiden showed enough emotion regarding the hole in our ocean spewing oil that is destroying our earth and our oceans. This is what we focus on...not the real problem. We are the problem! We must take responsibility for it.

23. Strange, I have the opposite thought...that they are thinking
stupid fucking humans always fuckin' shit up. I'm by no means giving you any grief, but that's my thoughts.

They're fine until humans come along and fuck everything up. They and other animals are going to the places to breed that they've known for years to go to. The only difference is when humans fuck it all up.

No matter, it enrages me, too.

35. If I lived anywhere near to there, I would be that crazy woman carting them off
in cardboard boxes to places for help. I don't care how awful it would be to wade out and get them but I would. Even if they couldn't be saved, and most of them can't be, they wouldn't die alone. :(

Dying from oil injestion is a horrible, painful, slow death. This is beyond my ability to handle.

8. Yeah, same here. It's one thing to F up the human race, but unfortunately humans
take everything with them. Keepers of the earth, what BS. I remember hearing that when I was a kid, humans are keepers of the earth. I used to look around and wonder WTF. All I saw was mostly destruction in the name of progress. I used to hike into the mountains to try to get away from the keepers of the earth. The earth did quite well without humans and will do quite well when humans are extinct.

9. I can't stand seeing it.
I can't stand seeing any of these birds suffering. At least CBS said tonight that the birds they saw were picked up and are OK....but you know what....I don't believe it. I don't believe that BP takes care of these birds. I just don't believe it. CBS was told that they cleaned up the pelican and it will be released in the wild in Florida.

I don't fucking believe this. I want to see where these birds are being cleaned. I want REAL televised footage of this. That fucking little Tony should be in jail.

I want these birds taken to SPCA or some organization that REALLY cares about animals.

29. Did CBS say *WHO* picked up the birds?
There are 2 legitimate avian rescue organizations that specialize in oil spills, who are in the region -- Tri-State and another one based in California, forget the name, International something that goes to oil catastrophes all over the world and was started after the Santa Barbara disaster.

If *THEY* have the birds, then the birds to have a chance. They have decades experience, top notch facilities and vets...

37. The CBS dude said he called a
BP number and a boat did come to get the birds. Maybe BP is in fact working with a legitimate organization. I hope so.

I want to see Tony with his head stuck in the sand and his legs flailing in the air. But I guess this 'spill' is too much for him and he has quit giving the job to an American BPer.

40. BP contracted with tristate
to do the bird cleanup so that is good. What is not good is that there are apparently not enough people out there looking for the injured birds and transporting them asap to the cleanup areas.

10. BP will make money even through all the lawsuits and the
devastation of wildlife and ecosystems. This was a calculated risk and they decided it was worth it, and they will not be jailed, nor will they lose profits. I'd like to see all of BP & Halliburton buried in this oil, let them swim through it and try to breathe.

We MUST imprison every BP executive. Arrest warrants should have already been issued and we should have used our law enforcement to apprehend BP's sociopathic CEO and all those who work directly under him. They are the worst kind of criminals. They are sociopaths...

The Audubon Org is reputable.

http://www.audubon.org/

And Catholic Relief Services is helping people out of work, like the fishing communities. Here's a link to the Diocese in the afflicted community, Houma Terrebonne. The Bishop's Fund takes Paypal too.

http://www.htdiocese.org/.../tabid/1163/Default.aspx

And last but not least:

http://www.auduboninstitu...gulf-oil-spill-resources

Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program (LMMSTRP)

Coordinated by Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, LMMSTRP is the primary responder for the state of Louisiana for rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing marine mammals (dolphins, whales and manatees) and sea turtles. Audubon and LMMSTRP are collaborating with NOAA, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the U.S. Coast Guard to ensure that we have the most up to date information about the direction of the oil spill and any possible animals in its path.

When a call comes in for a distressed sea turtle or marine mammal, the Audubon team will retrieve the animal and bring it back to Audubon Aquatic Center for assesment and treatment. It is anticipated that the greatest number of animals affected will be sea turtles as the Kemps Ridley species is currently migrating to the beaches of Mexico to nest.

I don't get the teevee and I get to pick and choose what comes over the intertubes, so I've selected out of the disaster porn this time around. I just can't face it yet. The images will become part of our cultural history, so I'll see them, and of course I'll follow the mitigation and recovery with considerable interest, but I just can't face the heartache right now. I used to live on the Gulf, and I always thought that if I ended up back east again, the Gulf would be a fine place to end up.
