Obama in LA sounded disgusted and pissed at BP - he knows what slimes they
are and he's not falling for their bullshit. I'm sure it'll be replayed several times if you missed it.

9. The biggest problem
The biggest problem is that he looks like he is "pissed" after days of being accused of not caring enough to be pissed, to a lot of people this will look like his advisors talked him into this.

It should never have gotten to the point where the President gets blame or credit for an oil spill a mile underwater. Standing on the beach with his sleeves rolled up just makes him look helpless when the leak is gushing more than 30 miles away. I think he should have ignored his advisors from the beginning and not "taken charge" in something he really can't do much about. Yes the government can sue BP and hopefully help clean up the mess but the actual nexus of the problem is the leak itself.

President Obama is not an engineer, I think we can agree on that. This whole "blame the President" meme is troubling because a lot of it came from our own side. The Political Enemy was more than willing to run with it too.

10. He's not ranting and raving and putting on a show - he's still being true to himself.
He seemed pissed before, too. The criticisms were that he didn't react the way people WANTED him to. And with each day that passes he learns more and more of BP's duplicity and of the real damage that's occurring. He's taking charge to ensure that the people affected aren't blown off by BP, that they don't sail away without doing all they can to clean up this mess. That's his job. It's a shame that we have to breathe down their necks, but that's become apparent.

I don't think anybody on our side is blaming him for the eruption -- is that what you mean?

18. no
I don't think anyone at all could get away with blaming him for the eruption, but you remember Carville acting like President Obama hadn't done anything. That is the kind of thing the President did not need. Too many people on our side came out of the gate acting as if the President could fix this quickly, raising expectations to an ungodly level. This just gave ammunition to the Political Enemies and the slow response (by bureaucrats, not the President) to the request for berms was really a kick in the pants.

6. Me too...
And when I talk about "the other LA" I try to remember to spell out Los Angeles... unless it's an immigration thread, then I use it's original name...

El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciúncula...

8. Didn't like the fact they spent a wad on a PR TV spot instead of giving it to
those affected; warned he would not stand by and watch them try to nickel and dime (his words) the payments; doesn't begrudge them the over $1 bil they are about to pay out in dividends, that's their agreement, but it should not be at the expense of those affected - just shows how much money the company makes. As I said, the feeling I got is that he's disgusted and pissed.

16. I think in a situation like this, it's never too late. He's actually learning and
responding to what he learns. I think that's fair.
