Poll: Bill Halter should beat Blanche Lincoln Tuesday
By Mike Madden

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Blanche Lincoln could be the next incumbent to lose a party primary on Tuesday, when she faces Lieutenant Gov. Bill Halter in a run-off for the Arkansas Democratic nomination.

The first round of voting last month left Lincoln short of the 50 percent threshold needed to win the nod outright -- as a surprising 13 percent of votes went to D.C. Morrison, seen as a protest candidate -- and set up Tuesday's election. Turnout next week could be far lower than in the first round, though, which probably doesn't bode well for Lincoln. The most committed voters are likely to be the ones who want a change; that probably means they're backing Halter.

A new poll out Friday by Research 2000 for the Daily Kos showed Halter leading, 49-45 -- slightly up from last week's result. Among people who voted for Morrison who plan to turn out again, Halter led by 10 points.

Lincoln's campaign has been pushing harder and harder on the idea that Halter is the candidate of outside interests, not Arkansans, playing up his support from MoveOn.org and big labor unions (which, though they have members in Arkansas, aren't wildly popular there).

Take a look at her new ad Friday, featuring Bill Clinton bashing labor (at link~)

6. That's nice but
I'll be surprised if he prevails in November against John Boozman.

I wouldn't celebrate winning a battle but losing the war.

8. The last polls I saw showed Lincoln polling
WORSE against the Republicans than Halter did. That means that the best chance that Dems have to pick up that seat is with Halter, NOT Lincoln. I think it would be a long shot either way, but it's LESS of a long shot with Halter than Lincoln.

15. Yep, I realize that. But every poll I've seen
has shown that that seat was going Republican in November. The ONLY Dem that has even a ghost of a chance is Halter. Lincoln would lose by double digits.

Halter winning the general would be a long shot. Lincoln winning would be a miracle of the "walking on water" variety.

The choice is simple. Lose big, guaranteed then vote for Lincoln in the primary. Have a shot, albeit a long shot, vote Halter.

17. Sorry. I don't link...................
I SAID that the last polls I SAW showed Halter with a better chance to win than Lincoln. That means EXACTLY what I said. I SAW the polls, probably here. If I'm wrong about it, fine. Show me and I'll make an exception for the AR race.

19. I can see anything and you can see anything...
But unless you can prove it, please don't make a statement that is easily backed up by a link to a post.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2010/senate/arkansas_senate_race.html

See it really wasn't that hard to do.

If all you say is you saw, it could mean anything and ads nothing to the discusion...

24.  All that matters is a (D) next to the name. Never mind she brags about obstructing the (D) agenda
I'm not sure who 'we' are but party affiliation in name only is not encouraging.

25. Halter is the Lt. Governor meaning he is capable of winning statewide election.
It will depend on turnout, just as it will if Lincoln should get back in. Both of them got more votes in the primary than the Repig.

10. Blanche diluted her drink at the Party. Halter's a bluer vote, or would be,
IMO, and I hope he has a great night this coming Tuesday. Go, Bill.

Recommended.

I would assume only Republicans and moderate Democrats win there.

I'm not wild about that ad that featured Bill Clinton. Sorry Bubba, you have it wrong. If a Democrat cross us, they should be thrown out on their ear.

While I hate linking to Lincoln's website, here is the press release:

18. The only think I hope for is that the votes will be properly counted - and it is only hope
I read an article yesterday that someone here provided a link to. It suggested that there are some mighty big unanswered questions about the count of the last Primary Election, and by implication the next.

27. Ummmm......
I was born and raised in Arkansas, spend enough time there to claim residency, have family (and extended family) that live there (virtually all Dems) and historical connections in the state that date back to the early 1800's.

Dems are very likely to lose this Senate seat in November regardless of who wins the party nomination.

Blanche likely would have been re-elected had it not been for the nonstop months on end media ads specificually directed at her - mostly financed by out of state interests on both sides of the issue - and all addressing the clusterfuck that became so-called healthcare reform.

Pukes are likely going to claim Blanche's Arkansas Senate seat this fall. And I blame that more on the fucking carpetbaggers (of both the Puke and Dem variety) than on Arkansas voters. Dem interests helped put a Dem incumbent in a position to be defeated. I'm gonna find it mighty hard to feel sorry for Dems if that happens.

Clean your own tables and let me take care of mine.
