Sheepish? New Ulm, MN bravely settles lawn issue
snip

The ordinance allowing sheep to graze in fenced areas zoned for industrial use will take effect in 30 days.

That should give Southside Auto Salvage owner Mike Lang plenty of time to fetch several “loaner” sheep from a farmer friend and put the critters to work for the summer.

Lang said sheep are a more practical solution to salvage yard maintenance because mowers can’t navigate the maze of junked cars on the 12-acre site and he doesn’t want to use chemical sprays in the area abutting the Minnesota River.

7. He could get a junkyard llama to protect the sheep.

3. Heh. We've had sheep and goats here in Denver for years.
Unfortunately, they get killed once in a while by people with dogs off leash.

We use them to keep the weeds down along Cherry creek.

5. Excellent.
I think it's great that cities are beginning to do this. We already have a chicken, duck, and turkey permit here in Minneapolis. I know of three or four people with chickens in their back yards.

8. They almost passed a chicken ordinance this year.
It failed, barely. They'll get it next year.

The sheep are fun to watch. They just herd them from one patch to the next with these mobile fences. Works like a charm.

4. That link put up a full sized popup behind my browser window!
And Firefox is not supposed to allow that so they are getting around the Firefox blocks somehow. If that were a site I would be likely to ever return to, I would complain to them, but I'll just not go there again.

6. New Ulm rocks!
Unfortunately, you can't find a good German cheese there. I tried and the shop owner said I'd have better luck in Minneapolis.

9. I haven't tried to find cheese there, but the Sausage Shop
on the main drag has excellent varieties of Summer Sausage.

Have you ever stayed at The Bohemian on German Street? The owner is very liberal and nice. And the house is a great old Victorian.
