Does anyone know a republican that isn't full of hate?
Edited on Fri Jun-04-10 02:45 PM by jillan
I am beginning to wonder if they exist. I'm sure they're out there, but I haven't come across any lately.

They are racist...not only is there SB 1070, I read this morning about a mural in a small town that has dark skinned people and the town is going nuts. And Proposition 8 in California. Textbooks being written that deletes many minority activists from history.

I was just threatened in an email by someone I never met on Facebook because I posted an anti Jan Brewer comment on her page. (yes, I reported them)

They write books comparing Liberals to Terrorists. And don't even get me started on what spews out of Glenn Beck and Limpo's mouth.

They think that people are unemployed are just lazy.

Who cares about the sea life that is dying, we need to drill baby drill. And environmentalists are to blame for the BP spill.

They just seem to have an attitude that they are above everyone else. I was raised to believe that we are all equal in God's eyes.

I could go on and on and on of examples of their hatred.

So tell me, does anyone know a republican that has love in their heart? I would really like to restore my faith in people, because I am becoming a bit cynical.

Edit to add - I'm just venting, ranting.....I've been running into alot of ugly all week. One of my favorite people ever was a republican...my father in law....the nicest guy you could ever meet. feel free to vent with me...but please know I am just venting my frustrations.

I have to admit here in Arizona that there are 2 Republicans that I think do a good job and are decent people. Rick Romley and Helen Parcels. Both of course are being attacked by the extreme wing as you would expect.

18. I actually don't think he was full of hate. I get the sense he was basically a good
person but really naive and gullible and fell prey to the fears he was being fed. I still blame him (mostly) for the state of the country today, but I don't think he was a hateful person.

My opinion of Reagan is that he was basically a tool of the corporate elites, and had a horrible Ayn Rand-like belief system.

But I don't think he was a callous psychopath like Bush or Cheney.

Edited on Fri Jun-04-10 02:15 PM by CBGLuthier
You asked two different questions.

I am quite sure there are plenty of fiscal republicans who are not filled with hatred. People who are only republicans for economic values. I actually know a man like that. So yes. to the first question.

Now, do any republicans have love in their heart? Maybe.Probably even.I don;t pretend to know the contents of all men's hearts.

On the other hand though, I firmly believe most people are assholes who would fuck their own mother if they could get rich doing it. I am a wee bit cynical too.

24. There are many from both sides that are questionable people
Blanche Lincoln, Ben Nelson, Gene Taylor to mention three and honestly I have to question how progressive anyone who supports this new Arizona law is. They are supporting a law that has not worked anywhere it has been tried and as guilty of stereotyping as the likes of Russell Pearce, Jan Brewer and Joe Arpaio. The fact that too many refuse to actually get down to the facts and learn the facts below the surface they turn up supporting stuff like this horrible law.

29. Yeah, of course. But none that aren't afraid
We've had well more than a decade of pretty intense fear-mongering from mostly the right. There are consequences. Nearly half of the country is not filled with hate, despite the bile spewing from the vocal asses. They are however almost all scared witless. They're scared of damned near everything and there aren't enough guns, bad laws, and gated communities to make them feel safe.

35. Yes.
I have a friend (who I am proud and happy to call my friend) who is a republican. He hasn't voted for a republican in quite a while. We taught together for many years in inner city L.A. No race issues, gay friendly, school supporter, anti-war, pot-smoker, no hate issues whatsoever otherwise we wouldn't be friends regardless of what he called himself. He says he's a "different type" of republican. I know he voted for Obama. I know he never voted for bush. I think his republicanism rests largely on the unpracticed upon republican ideals of less government intrusion and fiscal responsibility. I have to admit that those ideas are attractive to me as well. Hey, we all have to hope that our party lives up to its platform, right? I think the last time he voted republican was when Lincoln was around (he's only 40). But he still calls himself a republican.

my parents (mom is dead, but still) are republicans and they fit the above description, so I'm a surviving ACOAR (Adult Child Of a Republican).

On a recent trip to visit my father I used his computer to book a flight home and couldn't help but see a white supremacist sight in his browser history. I just hit a back button or something and there I was at Stormfront. I could almost hear the banjo playing outside. Couldn't get home fast enough.

Dehumanization through out history is a record in and of itself, first you group them all by one, then you discount them as human beings.

The Germans did it, the KKK still does, it. I am sorry if that makes you feel uncomfortable, but i don't give a crap about zealots, you do not represent the democratic party.

Like it or not, accept it or not, we are all human beings(whether you like it or not), no matter what color, religion, or beliefs.

Sure it's easy to demonize people, that's what makes genocide so palatable to people of your ilk.

I'm sorry that I led you to believe I care about this thread, or even what it's referencing, at all. My admittedly trivial point was that, sometimes newbies can't contain themselves when it comes to outing themselves as a FReeper. Calm down, I am not saying you are a FReeper, because I am not familiar enough with your posts. But if you felt the need to tell us all how you really feel, it might be a fun time had by all. Just wanted to clarify that. :)

52. I actually do know some moderate republicans who are reasonable, and not filled with hate.
They're socially liberal, but genuinely believe in smaller government.

They're registered republican (to be elected to anything in most parts of my county, you have to be a republican. sad, but true; I know that some self-employed businesspeople register republican for the same reason -- they'd actually lose customers if anyone found out they were dems at heart. I know it's icky as all get out, but that's the reality here in Republican Hell).

And they are NOT filled with hate. Not at all. I think they hate the right-wing wackos who are hijacking their party, however.

59. What I find is that they are hypocrites:
Republicans have been opposed to every social legislation, yet it certainly doesn't deter them from taking advantage of those evil liberal things like Social Security and Medicare. Nor does it deter them from using the federal highway system, enjoying clean water, sewage systems, FDA approved drugs, and the public school system which they now want to destroy and have the government pay them to send their kids to Christian brainwashing academies. The list of "liberal" measures that they have opposed in the past and don't hesitate to use would fill pages.

One of my acquaintances is typical of today's Republican. His father was successful, but ran into financial difficulties. He worked in the family business but found himself unemployed and actually unemployable except at menial jobs. He was ranting about liberals when I asked him just how the hell could he and his wife even survive without Social Security and Medicare that he is forced to supplement by working for a car dealership hauling around customers for six bucks an hour. These people are not evil, they are just plain damn stupid.

62. At one point, it did seem hard to find one. Esp in my family and area.
However, I am sure they're republicans out there who aren't. Just like they're some democrats who are hateful and some who are not.

are repugs and they are kind loving people. I just think they are short sighted and ill informed but they aren't hateful. I still love them.

71. I've met a few, and one of them is still alive
That would be former Rep. Kolbe of Arizona, whose seat is now filled by Gabrielle Giffords, a Democrat.

The others, guys like Jacob Javits, Nelson Rockefeller, Gerald Ford, were all nice guys, but I doubt
any of them would have identified with today's mouth-frothing nut cases.

Coming from the South as I do, don't even get me started on the typical Republican types I meet in
everyday life. Guns'n'God, every last one of them. Too much e-coli in the meat or something...........

78. You mean a Repub politician or just a regular Repub?
Politicians...well, they might be hard to come by, who aren't real kooks.

I've got quite a few Repub friends. Often people who you wouldn't suspect. For example, one a black, fashion-design intern living in NYC, the other is a long-haired, tie-dyed, coffee-shop-guitar-playing Christian conservative. Not all Repubs are Teabagger doofuses.

81. Yes, but he's an odd Republican. Hated Dubya and has a subscription
to the Utne reader. Vegetarian, into the small house and "voluntary simplicity" movement, blames deregulation for the BP gusher (not scuba diving ELF members, like many baggers do). But he's an orthodox Christian, so maybe that's why he's signed up with the dark side.
