It's common enough that there is a well known name for the phenomenon.

At the suggestion of another DUer, I am currently reading "BRIGHT-SIDED", by Barbara Ehrenreich, about the overabundance of "positive thinking" in this society, so this gave me quite a chuckle.

Just one more silly delusion we try to foist off on ourselves.
