New computer model for Oil Track , eastern seaboard

Computer models show that leaking oil from the Gulf of Mexico could flow up the Atlantic coast as soon as this summer, the National Center for Atmospheric Research said Thursday.

The computer simulations show that if oil reaches the Gulf's fast-moving loop current it would likely reach Florida's Atlantic coast within weeks. It could then move north with the Gulf Stream as far as North Carolina's Cape Hatteras before turning away from the coast.

"Our best knowledge says the scope of this environmental disaster is likely to reach far beyond Florida, with impacts that have yet to be understood," said Synte Peacock, a scientist with the atmospheric research center.

The Boulder, Colo., group is sponsored by the National Science Foundation, an independent federal agency."

1. Holy shit. If that model is accurate
then I presume this will be the "spill to end all spills".

2. no, the spill to end all life in the ocean
this won't end all spills, that sort of positive out come is not going to happen
I don't think even hurricanes spreading this ashore will stop the drilling and as long as we drill we will spill

3. True, but keep in mind NCAR's dye model is a simulation of one possible scenario, not a prediction
Their disclaimer says as much. So there's some hope (yet).

4. This pretty much follows the Gulf Stream - the oil will eventually reach

Europe, especially Spain. I posted about this last week from an article on Wiki.

Don't know why this should be a surprise - the Gulf Stream has been known for centuries.

6. My point was simple - I have trouble understanding why people are so casual
about this and evidently believe it will somehow be made OK any time soon...I believe it is just beginning, and won't be "back to normal" ever.

7. So true...
I think it is a good sign, coverage wise, that the MSM are reporting this new animation.

12. It ain't honesty, they just can't hide it any more.

They are grasping to preserve their credibility. They will continue to minimize whenever possible.
