Overtaken by events.
Elizabeth Birnbaum is a talented, clever, highly educated woman who was cleaning up MMS, but was overtaken by events. It's a shame and I'm sorry that America has lost her service. I wish her well.

Tony Hayward was put into his position at BP to clean up the mess left by his predecessor, but was overtaken by events. I hope he gets this blowout plugged. He now has the event that can lead to solving the problems that beset BP.
