Brewer Defends Comment On Dad Fighting Nazis: 'You're Trying To Make A Liar Out Of Me'

Gov. Jan Brewer is angry about the dust-up over her comment that her father "died fighting the Nazi regime in Germany."

In an interview with the Arizona Guardian, Brewer said she never "misled anybody," and said she's "fairly devastated by this."

There is no way I have ever misled anybody. You're trying to make a liar out of me.

Brewer had told The Arizona Republic in a recent interview that her father "died fighting the Nazi regime in Germany."

But according to the Guardian, Brewer's father, Wilford Drinkwine, died of lung disease in California in 1955. A Brewer spokesperson said that Drinkwine had inhaled toxic fumes while working during the war as a civilian supervisor for a naval munititions depot in Nevada. The spokesperson said the fumes eventually killed him, and that he was on full medical disability at the time of his death.

Knowing that my father died fighting the Nazi regime in Germany, that I lose him when I was 11 because of that...and then to have them call me Hitler's daughter. It hurts. It's ugliness beyond anything I've ever experienced.

13. So my great grandfather died fighting the Civil War.

He got out of service in 1873. In 1909 he died with a kidney disease. Do you think that was brought about by not being about to go to the bathroom as often as he should because he was fighting. Could be.

And my uncle did fight in the Battle of the Bulge. He died in 1960 of a heart attack. Could that be because he was still upset because of the stress from that battle. Could be.

You could go on an on about people dying and the reasons. But I think she is just a big fat liar who got caught.

26. Here is a point in her story that opens another question

she said he left Minnesota at the outset of the war, which would have been in 42 and went to Hawthorn Nv. The problem is he appears to have gone to work that in 44 so the story seems to leave 2 years out. Remember she was born in Hollywood Ca. and the first 10 years she lived in Hawthorn which leads me to think they were in Hollywood until 44 and since her dad went to Hollywood in 54 when so sick, I would think there must of been family or some close family friend there. It would appear he was unemployed just before the war and moved west to Hollywood looking for work and when the Hawthorn Ammo Depot was expended around 43 it opened up a job for Drinkwine in 44, but before that he was most likely unemployed or doing jobs that didn't have the income needed for the family. That alone is a question mark about her statement and of course it gets even more flakey after that.

If my theory is correct, then apparently she is ashamed of what happened with her dad in 42, 43 even though it certainly on the surface isn't anything to be ashamed of. Also this is a woman whose son committed and was convicted of sexual assault and abuse and was committed to a mental institution and she turned her back on him even to this day. His court record is sealed and he is now out of the institution, but the full story is hidden and she acts like he is no longer alive.
