Rice: ‘Iraqis Need To Know That We Are Not Looking To Leave Iraq’

In an interview last night on the Charlie Rose Show, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice pointedly said, “ur friends in the need to know and the Iraqis need to know that we are not looking to leave Iraq.” “Ever?” Rose asked. Rice responded, “We are not going to leave an Iraq that is not capable of defending itself and with a foundation for future reconciliation.”

Rose then asked Rice if she believed she’ll have the support of the American people to continue the war. Rice claimed the American people are looking for “progress.” Rose replied, “But nobody can answer the question: If it doesn’t happen, what?” Avoiding discussion of a Plan B, Rice answered, “Charlie, because as the President said to you, we’re focused on having it happen.”

-snip-

When Rose asked Rice if the administration was “looking for a strategy for the United States to exit from Iraq.” Rice answered, “No, we’re looking for a strategy that is going to do what we went there to do.”

Last month, Rose similarly asked President Bush, “Can you imagine a circumstance in which you would have to say, we did our best, good men and good women sacrificed their life, but we can’t in the end do what we want to do, and we have to leave?” “No,” Bush replied. “I can’t imagine that, because I believe that with time, this Iraqi government is going to be able to reconcile and move forward.”

9. I don't think he meant by wining an election, I think by taking complete control...
As in a full Dictatorship. Unless someone stands up to these losers and begins some sort of Impeachment... these thugs will continue to ignore the Constitution... and may even grab full control by whatever means!

13. As bad as things are, I don't think that would ever happen
It couldn't happpen. The US military wouldn't allow it.

Military enlisted personnel swear to obey the orders given to them by their officers, up through their chain of command, to the President. No people other than enlisted military swear any kind of oath to obey the President.

The obligation of Military Officers is to obey the Constitution and the duly-enacted Laws, not to obey the President. This is their Constitutional obligation, which their oath of office compels them to obey.

4. If they knew that, they'd be deluding themselves
We are looking to leave Iraq, and we're looking to send Condoleeza Rice and the rest of Bushco over there to stay when we withdraw our armed forces.

What she hasn't figured out yet, is that we are calling Bushco's bluff. They cannot hold us, the Iraqis, and the rest of the world hostage.

Just because they self-interestedly and recklessly invaded Iraq doesn't mean that the rest of the United States is interested in staying there, for any reason.

In fact, the injudicious war of choice foisted on us and the Iraqis by Bushco is adequate reason to remove Bushco from office, remove our forces from the Middle East, and take no action in the Middle East that is not wholly collaborative with international joint diplomatic and peacekeeping operations.

7. You're stuck with us.
We are like the mafia. We move in to 'help out' and suddenly we are running your business into the ground and you can't get rid of us until there is nothing left to steal.

15. One problem: "what they went there to do" keeps changing
Last week KO did a great summary of the list of "goals" BushCo have offered so far to justify invading and then staying in Iraq, and how "progress" has shifted to a new goal each time the last is attained. Regime change, WMD, liberate the Iraqis, hold elections, capture Saddam, write a constitution, stabilize the country, stabilize the region....

OLBERMANN: Progress, year after year, in almost mathematically precise increments, never quite enough to justify leaving, always just enough to justify staying, because there is always another milestone to look forward to, a turning point beyond which victory might lie.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18438559/

Condi was truthful on one point. We are NEVER leaving -- not as long as the RepugliCons are in charge.

17. Yes she is correct. Even the Dems support staying in Iraq.
The majority of Dems do not call for all US Troops to be pulled out of Iraq. The Bill that Busholini vetoed stated that an undetermined number of US Troops would stay indefinetly to train Iraqi Troops, to defend the Green Zone and the 14 US Bases and to fight al Q and the Sunni and Shi'ite Insurgency. The US will have at least 60K Troops and a large number of Mercs in Iraq well beyond '09 no matter which party is in the WH..

19. Sigh, I know
I was going to write that but didn't feel like being jumped on again. But it's true...I see precious few in Congress overall who take seriously the lies and needless death and destruction BushCo have caused. And it's INFURIATING.
