400 stitches. Update.
The little girl who was mauled by a pit bull in our village last Friday is home from the hospital today. Her grandfather tells us her medical bills so far are in excess of $25,000. She is in a wheelchair but home and healing. She will require extensive plastic surgery. Thank goodness her parents have health insurance.

I am going to take her a goody basket next week with books and toys and yummy treats and balloons. I wish I could do more.

3. They have no money.
And no insurance. Blood from a stone I guess.

4. Figures. People who have nothing get a vicious dog they have no business owning
to protect the nothing that they have. Don't meth lab operators keep watch dogs around? I'll bet they have some money if you turn them upside down and shake them. Also, a judge may just put out an order to garnish their wages every month until the debt is paid off if they have jobs because I'm sure the insurance company will go after them to recoup their money.

2. Oh that is so sad, I missed your earlier thread on this.
I am sure the $25K is their cost with insurance. And if they didn't have insurance, she would just be stuck with the scars from the mauling.

I hope she heals quickly.

5. You are doing a very good thing for her ....
You are letting her know that you care for her and please tell her that people she has never met care about her and want her to get better too.

I'm very sad to hear what happened to her. I didn't see the earlier thread, but the very best to her and her family, and the very best to you too. You are good people.

6. I hope they put down the owner of the dog when they decide to put down the dog.

8. The dog was in the house- dove through the screen door to get at her.
If a local officer hadn't been on the street at the time she would be dead. Dog has of course been put down.

9. "Socialize" your dog.
An owner can and should make sure that their dog will be sweet to other dogs and kids and the hustle bustle of life.

To own a dog that growls and snarls and know it could hurt some one is illogical and foolish.

There was a toddler killed in San Bernardino just last month.
It was their own dog and in their own yard.

Socialization is the most important thing about raising a dog and expect to have that dog to live with the hustle and bustle that families and societies thrive on.

I love mutts, they are often genetically superior to the fancy full bloods.
