Anyone heard an update on Kevin Costner's oil centrifuge technology?
is it at all effective or is it just too big a job for any technology? I found his company's method to be reasonable and sure would like to hear some good news coming out of this mess?

1. Where's Costner right now on all this?
Would think he would be vocal if he has the technology. The media would eat it up if he spoke out...and maybe that would be a good thing. Some good thing surely needs to happen in all this right now. :(

3. There is a new product, a liquid, that separates oil and water.
I spoke with the maker just two days ago. They can be up and running quickly with massive amounts. End product is oil fit for sale.

4. Oil and water are naturally immiscible... which is why the centrifuge
method makes so much sense. It too would leave the oil (as if I care) fit for sale and without any chance of toxicity from adding other products.... Some of Costner's units can process incredibly large amounts of water per minute.

How would this liquid be used and is it toxic (like the dispersants?)

6. Hello! What part of centrifuge to remove the oil is confusing you?
Edited on Wed Jun-02-10 06:40 PM by hlthe2b
Do you know what a centrifuge IS? It runs thousands upon thousands of gallons through a high speed separation process in order to get it out of the Gulf. By NOT adding anything toxic to the water, as the liquid you propose might well be. By mechanically separating the oil from the water, one need add nothing that might well add to the problem. A perfectly safe solution if it can keep up and if the dispersants are not rendering the oil impossible to filter through in this process.

Immiscible means that oil and water naturally separate, do not blend--the mechanical centrifuge can speed this separation process, allowing for the oil to be collected. Can it really be that you are confused by this? Can you really believe that you need to tell anyone on this forum that oil is toxic????
