Sarah Silverman Calls Fox News A '24-Hour-A-Day Racism Engine,' Fox News Hits Back
Huffington Post | Danny Shea First Posted: 06- 2-10 02:59 PM | Updated: 06- 2-10 03:50 PM

Sarah Silverman has lashed out against Fox News — and the network has responded.

The comedienne, whose Comedy Central show was recently canceled, says the network propagates racism in her book, "The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee."

"The entire Fox News Channel is a 24-hour-a-day racism engine, but it's all coded, all implied," she wrote (via NewsBusters). "Lou Dobbs used to scream on CNN about 'immigration,' not 'filthy Mexicans.'"

"Sarah's anger is understandable having recently lost her television show," a Fox News spokesperson said in response. "We sympathize with her need for attention considering her book is languishing near 300 on Amazon.com."

Silverman didn't just target Fox News — she said the entire right wing is marked by a subtle form of racism.

4. Okay: 'Snark' is NOT a response
I don't know why the hell people think making a snide remark about the messenger somehow equates to a reasoned response. It doesn't.

25. They Better Be Careful With That
Their ratings fell off a long time ago and landed on plateau with a slightly downward tilt. They don't have enough viewers to really get chippy about ratings. They can act like it, but that doesn't make it so.

11. Considering the millions of books on Amazon being #300 isn't too shabby
Not a Sarah Silverman fan but if Fox thinks they can shame her they've got another think coming. She's utterly shameless and in this instance it's a good thing. She has nothing to lose from not taking their crap, so she won't take their crap.

14. Faux spokesdicks give the same recycled answer every time anyone points out
how much they suck. If we were to apply that "logic" to every day life. Britney Spears is one of the greatest singers eeeeever.

15. She was right on the money.
But its all working out, because the beneficiaries of FOX's media efforts - the Republican party - is handing their section of the Latino vote to the Democrats thanks to things like the AZ law.

As a Democrat, I want to say: Thanks, Fox.

17. Languishing near 300? Like it's an insult to have 299 books selling better?
Any of their newsreaders would auction their grandmothers to have a book selling so well.

18. Ms. Silverman is right. Fox should go to hell with their snide remarks about her.
Edited on Thu Jun-03-10 01:21 AM by political_Dem
Ever since its inception, the news network has out and out used and abused people of color, the LGBT community, women and other folks who don't fall in the lines of "mainstream American culture". It is about time someone put their foot down and say what this channel means in all its glory.

Although Ms. Silverman has a quirky way of saying things, her criticism of popular culture is often deft and succinct in getting to the gist of the matter.

And believe me, "bitterness" has nothing to do with telling the truth--especially in this circumstance.

Larry Elder would be a close second, but FOX didn't renew his show.

Those two raise the notion of being a "sell out" to an art form. ;)

23. Ms Sliverman's book is currently @ #24 on the (more accurate) NYT Times Best Seller List
Hardcover/Non-Fiction:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/06/books/bestseller/besthardnonfiction.html?ref=bestseller

Amazon doesn't filter out bulk buys. The NYT-BSL does.
