Oil Spill Solution
It has come to my attention that every damn attempt that BP has made at stopping this mess has also been an attempt at collecting the oil that is spewing out. So, here is a solution: maybe we should try to STOP the flow FIRST, and then worry about collection. Or is that way too much to ask?

1. How DARE you interfere with capitalism!!
What's more important? More money for the oil companies, or saving our ocean? How can we let the lives and livelihoods of millions of people stand in the way of profits?

Fuck BP.

2. The initial attempt, top kill, was to stop it. This attempt is to staunch the flow
so that we're able to collect it to prevent it from continuing to gush into the gulf.

If they could have stopped it they would have.

3. I hate to say this, but if the relief well is unable to overcome this gusher,
there would be nothing left to lose by sending an appropriately sized and carefully considered nuclear (or other) device in order to collapse that bore.

4. FAIL
Top kill was intended to stop the flow and plug the well permanently. Pay attention.

5. Your OP is incorrect.
Top kill, and top kill + junk shot were both attempts to stop the flow. Both were long shots, and both failed. Relief wells are what's needed to stop the flow. They're being drilled but they're months away from completion.

Containing the oil is the best they can do.

Sid

7. sigh...

The point is that they CAN'T stop the flow until the relief wells are dug...SO- until THAT point, the best thing they can do is try to collect as much of the oil as possible, in order to minimize the environmental catastrophe.
