WTF? Have I been living on another planet or am I just hallucinating?
I usually don't read the Huffington Post for the sole reason that there are only so
many hours in a day, and I can't read every friggin' blog that's out there.

However, I was used to seeing progressive to slightly left of center columnists on
the Huffington Post. For the first time in months, I clicked on it today to see
what they had to offer. Featured prominently was an article by a "Ken Blackwell."

I just thought to myself, what an ironic name to have for a columnist on a liberal
blog. After all, Kenneth Blackwell was the piece of excrement who practically threw
the 2004 election to Bush, and gave the country four more years of the crap that
eventually gave us the Gulf Oil Spill, John Roberts and Sam Alito (speaking of crap).

I clicked on the bio, and just stared in disbelief. It was, too, THAT "Ken" (getting
chummy with this guy, Arianna?) Blackwell, spewing his right wing bile as if he were
writing a guest editorial for Fox Noise (if the viewers of that channel could read).

Did Arianna Huffington invite "other" points of view for "balance," or what, and when
did this happen? Did she need some promised advertising money, or has this been going
on for a long time, and I haven't been paying enough attention to notice (certainly a
possibility--I'm asking out of genuine curiosity).

But even is she DID need some "balance," she certainly did NOT need it from a dyed in
the wool Clarence Thomas wannabe with a proven track record of election fraud against
Democrats (and the country, just as an aside).

To paraphrase Frank Zappa: Arianna, honey, what's got into ya?

3. Huffpost needed to be on the left to get a Democrat elected to the WH
Now that he's in office they moved to a centrist-right format to support his policies.

6. huh????
the Huffpo does not support obama and has been trashing him before he was even sworn into office.
They are suppose to be a left leaning blog and they definitely do not support or write any positive articles on the Prez.
What planet have you been living on??

She made her splash by going after Clinton and his wandering penis where ever she saw microphone of a camera...

I don't care what she did now, politics is not big time wrestling where the players are expected to change side fairly regularly.

I agree - Huffpost is crap. Remember that Arianna Huffington is former (?) rightie who decided it was more fashionable to blog from her mansion sized bed in favor of the liberal Democrats. She is a spoiled, irritating little guttersnip who interests me not in the least anymore.

Addendum - her slow as molasses site almost always crashed my browser.

17. I'd hardly call Blackwell "opposition."
Edited on Wed Jun-02-10 01:51 PM by DFW
His is not a viewpoint. It's solid right-wing invective. Since the 2004 election and his fraudulent
manipulation of Ohio's presidential tally, and his subsequent drubbing by Ohio voters at the polls
when he ran for govenor, he has been spewing out his hateful crap here and there. This is not some
David Brooks with a midwestern accent. This is a bile-infused right wing propagandist, and activist
when he is given the chance. Someone out for money and power for their own sake is not the voice of
opposition. It is the voice of the worst America has to offer. The fact that guy has mastered the use
of our language, as opposed to most on his wavelength, changes nothing.

29. Huffington Post calls itself "The Internet Newspaper"...
If we claimed to be a newspaper here, then yes, we would look foolish to only be publishing stories we like and can make money off of. I mean, aren't we the ones always blasting "infotainment?"

18. It meshes with this thread re: a corporate media, CNN opinion piece.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=103x539538

"By contrast, the left-leaning Huffington Post, the most visited blog on the Internet, has thousands of bloggers and invites active users to become featured authors and comment facilitators."

The corporate media is trying to define the parameters of the Internet as a means to direct traffic and then frame or warp ideological perspective.

Kicked and recommended.

Thanks for the thread, DFW.

19. My motives were less than noble, I must admit
I rarely look at the Huffington Post, and was frankly shocked. "Warp ideological perspective," indeed.

This is about as shocking to me as seeing Bernie Sanders being asked to post on Freep. Blackwell is NOT
conservative in the classic sense of the word. He is just another right wing hack with blood on his hands.

When I saw that, I felt like I was Rip van Winkle or something.

As far as I'm concerned, not that I looked at the Huffington Post much anyway, it's like the coastline of eastern Louisiana:

It looked nice once, but is now ugly, stinks, and is rather toxic to the touch.

25. I read the article. I have no problem with legitimate opposing viewpoints occuring
on progressive sites. I DO have a problem with continuing the assault on reason and public discourse by publishing propaganda and misinformation. This is what Fox, Hannity, Beck do and it does not serve democracy well. Huffington should not publish misinformation or even opinion based on misinformation and hidden agendas. Blackwell is all about misinformation and loyalty to party....right after selling his book.

This is a continuing unfortunate trend in media....trying for balance by publishing the truth and lies and giving them equal footing.

So I wouldn't know. I saw the McLaughlin group a few times--maybe 15 years ago?--when I was stateside. Someone I know
was on there every time, but she was the only rational person on there. The rest were mostly right-wing blowhards.

33. Was Alan Keyes not available?
I am concerned when any media outlet gives a platform for right-wing crap from worthless nothings like "Ken" (or Keyes, or any of the other insane righties). Having to watch my country being torn apart by these horrible conservatives is simply heartbreaking. As far as I can tell, there is nothing whatsoever we Americans can do about them, other than complain, which accomplishes nothing.
