Tampa Bay Seawater Desalinization Plant worries

I read about this in an article this morning by a writer that is barred from DU so can't post a link.

they are worried about oil plugging up the seawater intake pipes.

this would mess up water to a huge amount of Florida citizens.

has any of you all heard about this worry?

1. I haven't heard it voiced in the media, but it was one of my
first concerns when it was obvious this wasn't going to stopped anytime soon. Millions of people on the Gulf coasts and on the Atlantic rely on desalination for their water.

3. It's on the east side of Tampa Bay.

And I would imagine the loop current would take most of the oil past the mouth of Tampa Bay.

5. The loop is well offshore.

Once the oil gets caught up in the loop it looks like Fort Lauderdale and Miami and even Cuba will be more likely to suffer a severe impact on their shores than the Tampa Bay area. Certainly there will be some oil that will break away from the loop but it seems to me that any impact on the Apollo Beach area will not be critical. Whatever the case, it's a horrible man-made disaster and those involved in its creation should be held accountable. And those who sit back and merely point fingers are the worst of the lot. At this point it looks like the Gulf of Mexico will never be the same.
