Last night, former half-term Alaska governor Sarah Palin believed she'd found a way to both absolve her oil-happy politics and blame environmentalists for the spill at the same time, and took to Twitter to rub it in.

When she and alll the other GOP goons were chanting that phrase at the RNC Convention, there was never any proviso that drilling on-land was good but drilling offshore was to be avoided. All their speeches and talking points demanded that we drill here, there, and everywhere, including offshore drilling, even deep-water drilling.

Gawd, I hope the GOPers run Pailin as their candidate in 2012. As popular as she is among their base, the polls show that the rest of the country sees her for the ranting idiot that she is.

Who will do the drilling? The US government? The Little Sisters of the Poor?

No, it will be done by global mega-corporations and there is no guarantee that any of the oil will remain in the US. In fact, there's every reason to believe that it will not. The oil will be sold on the world market to the highest bidder. That could be China. It could be Japan. Anyone. It won't reduce prices, because oil producers won't allow prices to drop. If the prices do start to come down, they will throttle back production to get prices back up.

The only ones who will benefit from "drill, baby, drill" are the mega-corporations -- not the people of the US.
