Bullhorn. (Emphasis on the "bull")
8.5 years ago, after an unprecendented tragic event, we had a President who stood at the scene with a bullhorn and promised loudly that the people responsible for the calamity would face the consequences soon.

His poll ratings shot upward. The American people were seemingly united.

.... and then he didn't come through.

He was all bluster.... all image.... all "optics".

After 7 years of that crap, the American people finally realized what a joke that President was. His once lofty 90%+ approval ratings fell to below 30%. He became a national joke and most historians suspect he'll be one of the all time worst Presidents in American history.

So the people decided it was time for a President with a level of intelligence who engaged in reasoned thought processes. Who worked problems without worrying about what it did to his poll ratings. Who remained cool and contemplative in the face of major crises.

We have that guy now. And thank God we do.

I don't want my President standing at the scene of the crime with a bullhorn. Fuck that. That's worthless Hollywood optics.

I want a President who is taking the right actions, not worrying about what "feeling" he is projecting.

Maureen Dowd, take your daddy issues somewhere else. Your need for a "group hug" involving your President is of no interest to me.

James Carville, I don't care if you think he is "feeling your pain" enough. I want a President who is doing the right things, not feeling the right things.

Chris Matthews, quit comparing every Presidential action to your old boss. Obama is not Carter.

Maybe too many Americans have an infantile need to be reassured, but I'd like to think that I'm grown up enough that I don't need to be "soothed".

Media - take your bullhorn and shove it up your ass. We don't need that kind of moment.

We need quiet and effective resolve.

And we need to look in the mirror about where we want to go as a country with regards to energy, not crying to the government to save us from ourselves.

1. i heard on npr yesterday to authors criticizing obama. one stated obama does not give empty gestures
to the public but is effective behind the scenes. (people thought would be opposite. effective with public communication and lack executive procedures). then they went on to criticize him for not giving the empty gestures to reassure the public. i thought it a compliment saying obama was not a man to give empty gestures. i guess it is what the public wants. it isn't what i want.

2. Right
""We need ... effective resolve"

And we are yet to see much 'effective'. Sure, they go through the motions but the situation is only getting worse.

I grok that people feel they must protect Obama, and it is a shame they have to. You'd think he would have assured all of us that there was a light at the end of the tunnel. But all we see is darkness washing up on the beaches going on 44 days now.
