Submit Feedback - Louisiana Barrier Island Proposal

A meeting was held in New Orleans, La., June 1, 2010 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. CDT to discuss the barrier island berm proposal requested by the state of Louisiana and for which a permit was proffered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on May 27, 2010. The purpose of the meeting was to provide the National Incident Commander with scientific and technical information on the project and to allow him to make a recommendation to the President on:

(1) The feasibility of this intervention ,

(2) Whether this construction is a bona fide element of spill response and recovery,

(3) A recommended course of action for the remaining Louisiana segments approved by the Corps of Engineers, and

(4) The applicability of these decisions on other potential berm projects in areas threatened by the spill.

Due to time constraints of the meeting, the National Incident Commander, Adm. Allen, agreed to allow a 24-hour period for additional public input and comment prior to his recommendation to the President.
