Fox News - "Obama Abandons Israel to UN Feeding Frenzy"
It is amazing the degree to which Fox News pushes Neocon talking points. Israel's actions were clearly designed to sabotage any peace talks with the Palestinians.

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2010/06/01/anne-bayefsky-obama-abandons-israel/

The policy shift by the Obama administration away from protecting Israel from UN hordes was also in evidence last Friday at the close of the 2010 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). With the support of the President, that Conference adopted conclusions singling out Israel though Israel is not a party or subject to the treaty.

The agreed NPT document called for an international conference intended to force Israel to give up its (undeclared) nuclear deterrence capabilities without linking it to the realization of the country’s national security needs. And the United States promised to facilitate the 2012 meeting. By contrast, the Conference conclusions made no reference to Iran, which is a party to the treaty and in violation of its provisions.

In a formal statement delivered at Friday’s closing session, Ellen Tauscher, Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, said: “The Final Document this Conference adopted today advances President Obama’s vision.” She called it a “forward-looking and balanced action plan” and described negotiations as resulting in “a thorough review and constructive outcome.”

At the meeting that was to have taken place today between President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Netanyahu was reported to have hoped for assurances from the President that he would not advance another UN-driven onslaught against Israel. In view of the administration’s willingness to participate in just such events days later, a positive response – and improvement in the Obama administration’s relations with Israel – is even more unlikely.

2. Yep, it figures.
Obama is the only person standing between the UN and Israel right now. And these knuckleheads are screaming that he's abandoned them? Feh.

Most of us are annoyed by the administration's stance on the flotilla attack, and yet Fox News posts some whacked out shit like this.

Israel deserves to get eaten alive for a change without us there to protect them.

9. If only...
Instead he has Hillary calling people to ratchet down their criticisms of Israel.

Sorry, they've been killing Palestinians for way, way too long and getting a free pass for the human rights abuses they engage in. Not to mention almost all of the tension we have in the Middle East is because of our alliance with them and their insane Right Wing government. I say cut the cord and if they want to foolishly use the weapons we never should have given them to destroy their neighbors as they threaten Iran with constantly, have at it... ALONE.

13. I think it's the right response...
Without laying direct blame, Clinton said the flotilla incident underscored the "unsustainable and unacceptable" situation in the Gaza Strip, which been subject to an Israeli blockade since the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas seized control of the coastal desert territory in 2007.

"Israel's legitimate security needs must be met, just as the Palestinians' legitimate needs for sustained humanitarian assistance and regular access to reconstruction materials must also be assured," Clinton said.

She said the United States would continue to push to reunify Gaza and the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority through a "two state" solution negotiated with Israel.

"This incident underscores the urgency of reaching this goal and we remain committed to working with both sides to move forward these negotiations," she said.

The LAST thing we need is for this to ratchet up further, and for us to get drawn into an escalation, etc. As opposed to what we've seen in the recent past, it's good to see cool heads and careful words.

I'm just hoping the man doesn't have a nervous breakdown. We kinda need a president who's in one piece.

22. Thanks for the "clarification!" Yes, I can see how dramatic it would be
if the UN decided to condemn the armed Israeli commandos for "dropping in" on the unharmed pacifists of all nations!!!

That would be so unfair!

19. It's an opinion/blog piece.
As much as I dislike Fox news, the responses to this OP make it sound like this is a headline on the Fox website.

I'm sure there's just as much garbage on CNN or MSNBC or any of the other news outlets opinion pages and forums...

If you hate this piece, go comment on it. You're preaching to the choir here.
