Zipcar files for a $75 million IPO
Source: Examiner

Zipcar, the car-sharing company, filed on Tuesday for a $75 million initial public offering as it continues to expand its popular services.

Zipcar was founded in 2000 and has grown to more than 400,000 members from San Francisco to London, where the company just last month expanded via the purchase of Streetcar, a leading car sharer in the U.K.

I was standing in the Jetblue line at JFK airport in 1999. Jetblue itself was brand new back then. There was guy standing behind me and we started talking while the line crawled.
He was lawyer, flying up to Boston..to start what would eventually become Zipcar with a woman friend he knew.

Reminds me of the stock tip that I got and ignored..in 1984..I swear. It was the caterer for my son's Bar Mitzvah. He had catered an affair the night before, and had been told by one of the big VIPs at the party to buy.........ORACLE. He passed the info on to me..and ...the rest, as they say, is history.

woulda shoulda coulda.

2. This is a company that baffles me
They charge more than our local car-share company, and yet manage to steal, I mean get, business away from them. Which makes me kind of sad, because I love local small businesses much more than national corps.

3. It's a cool idea, especially in college towns and big cities where
lots of people have drivers' licenses but don't have the need for owning and running a car.

I used it several times, and the place I worked was large enough so that they had dozens of people like me who would rent one for a few hours when we needed one.
