Thinking about the oil spew....
Edited on Mon May-31-10 01:02 PM by wildbilln864
The oil will make the ocean waters darker. Won't they then absorb more heat than normally? What effects will that have on the climate and any storms in the gulf. How long will before the oil leak has an effect?

1. We are left to but ponder
I wonder if the ocean doesn't already absorb all of the energy from the sun - at least in water deep enough where there is no reflection of the rays from sand (of course the reflected rays are absorbed as well.)

I don't know but thank you for the reply. All we can do is ponder the effects I guess. Just doesn't seem to foretell a bright future and healthy planet for my grandsons. :banghead:

3. Well, on a brighter note, the suns energy helps to breakdown the oil faster
The chemical and microbial breakdown should occur faster than in the case of the Exxon Valdez.

4. hmmm....
well I guess that's at least something. I saw a show last week about the oil still pooled in places from the Valdez 21 years later. And there'll be a lot more this time to break down!
