State's leaders downplaying oil spill's effects

Molly Parker • mparker2@jackson.gannett.com • May 26, 2010

Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant rejected a man's claim that he could smell gasoline on the Gulf Coast.

Gov. Haley Barbour called most of the oil slick a "very, very thin layer of oil residue" while encouraging people not to panic or assume the worst.

Compared to their Southern counterparts, Mississippi's top political leaders have treated the April 20 rig explosion and subsequent leak gently - to the chagrin of critics.

That spill is threatening sensitive marshlands, parking commercial fishing boats, thwarting tourism and testing the public's patience as BP PLC sets about another risky attempt to plug the gusher.

1. Why not ask other nations for their tankers to help suck up these thin slicks.
Let them keep what they glean?

Why the hell not?!?

2. To be honest I don't think any other country or company want their fingerprints on this mess
Let me give you an example.

Occasionally on my job I would get assigned to a job that the guys on the previous shift had fucked all up. Usually when you fucked something up that meant you owned it. In other words for the next month(s) when we came into work you were going to be assigned to the job you had fucked up until the mess was fixed. Other guys might give you a little advice on the side on how to unfuck the job but they wouldn't come over there near it. And get their fingerprints on it.

Same thing here. You think another oil company wants to get their name associated with this fuck up? They don't want to get their fingerprints on it.

Did I explain that well enough?

Don

3. First, barbour's full of 'it.'
Next, those 'thin slicks' in marshlands are probably NOT thin, and couldn't be sucked up, given the marshes; think about it, logistically.

4. Who you gonna believe,
Haley Barbour or your lyin'eyes? He's every bit as full of shit as the Gulf is full of oil.
