Ru-Roh...Purported Haley-gate Text: 'Your The One Who Screwed Her'
South Carolina blogger and political consultant Will Folks has released a series of what he claims are text messages between himself, an AP reporter, another GOP political operative, and the campaign manager for gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley -- with whom Folks claims he had an inappropriate physical relationship.

The texts, posted on Folks site, FITSNews, are dated about 10 days ago and consist of discussions about various reporters working on a story that involves Haley and Folks, and how to kill the story. In one May 15 text, Haley campaign manager Tim Pearson tells Folks "I'm telling you man, we keep this under wraps and nh is going to win."

Just one of the texts, purportedly sent from GOP operative Wes Donehue to Folks on May 14, actually describes the topic of the story being discussed: "Now, I don't give a fuck of you believe me or not. Your the one who screwed her. You're the one who bragged about it. She's the one who told BJ. Yall point fingers at your own damn selves and leave me the fuck out of it."

According to Folks, "BJ" is B.J. Boling, a staffer for Haley opponent Rep. Gresham Barrett (R-SC)

1. Why the hell would anyone do her in the first place?
Oh, right - Folks is a REPUBLICAN blogger. Desperation is a given.

3. So far no one is denying the authenticity of the text
A Very Tight Needle To Thread
David Kurtz | May 26, 2010, 12:35PM It's been about 12 hours now since those purported text messages were published by Will Folks, and so far no one who was allegedly a party to those texts has come forward to deny their authenticity. In fact, the only ones to come forward so far have confirmed their authenticity.

Wes Donehue, a GOP consultant who did work on the campaign of one of Nikki Haley's rivals says the texts of his that were published are the real deal. Most significantly, Haley's campaign manager says his texts are authentic, but maintains his denial that there was an affair between Folks and Haley. More on that tricky position in a moment.

Now, I never buy the argument that it's not about the sex. It's always about the sex. In this case, if there was an affair, and if Haley had admitted to it, I have to think that her campaign for governor, just two weeks before the GOP primary, would be sunk. This is South Carolina. The sex part matters.

But this may be one of those rare occasions where the sex, if there was any, actually ends up being less damaging than the coverup. If a candidate for governor outright lied about the affair and attacked her paramour publicly -- in the same state that just endured the Mark Sanford saga -- well, that's just devastating. No way around it.

6. What a deserving bunch...
it's too bad that many of the "republican" electorate in SC has been conned into believing the bullshit sold by the state's republican leaders.

Although not related to the governor's race, please remember Democratic candidate Rob Miller's campaign this fall to unseat Joe "You lie, boy" Wilson representative seat:

9. It's the liberals' fault!
If they hadn't legalized gay marriage in Massachusetts, all these Republican politicians in South Carolina wouldn't be exchanging bodily fluids with people they're not married to. Says so in the Bible. I think it's in Leviticus somewheres.
