Conservatives, Libertarians: Don’t you understand the SIMPLE concept of Cause and Effect?
If you neglect the responsibilities of your job, you lose your bread and butter. If you neglect the care of your home, it falls into ruin. If you neglect the education of your children, they cannot find independence. Isn’t it time you realized the concept of cause and effect also extends OUTSIDE your most personal experiences? Isn’t it time to admit you are a part of everything around you? Now can you see the Big Picture? Now can you see you create what you hate?

If you dismiss the science that explains the complex and delicate relationships between life and the environment, you will be fighting against yourself and your children AND your neighbors AND the rest of us. The deregulation of any industry, whose business stands to threaten our oceans, our wetlands, our property and businesses and the human lives that depend on the health of the environment, can ultimately lead to the disaster we see now in the Gulf of Mexico. You should be able to see this now.

Neglect the environment and you neglect all that depends upon it. Cause and Effect.

I’m sure you’ve said or thought or identified with those who say “I’m not an environmentalist”. But those of us you may say are, we are not so for the sake of simply holding the title. We understand CAUSE and EFFECT. Neglect the trees and we will no longer have clean air to breathe. Science has explained this. YOU will not have it, your children will not have it and your neighbors and the rest of us will not have it. This is why we fight against your tendencies…we want to live and as a result of our actions, you may also live in spite of yourselves. Cause and Effect.

Your desire for wealth at all costs will be the ruin of this planet. Cause and Effect.

You cannot rape the Earth for whatever it yields economically and expect the Earth to continue to support life. You must pay attention to the effects of your actions.

And likewise, you cannot divide nations for your economic interest and expect to live safely for long. You will become a victim of threats. See? You create what you hate.

You cannot deny certain segments of the population the same rights you enjoy and expect them all to be good neighbors to you. They will get very vocal about who they are and demand to be allowed to live as you want to live and you will say they “cram it down your throat”. See? You create what you hate.

You cannot deny children an opportunity for education and expect to live peacefully for very long. Why is this so hard for you to understand? It is simple Cause and Effect. These kids may end up in the streets, perhaps start taking drugs to still their despair and maybe even be compelled by circumstances to rob you. See? You create what you hate.

You cannot divide people and expect them to get along. We will protest in the streets against your divisions. See? You create what you hate.

You can’t force a woman to bear a child she cannot support and then turn around and deny her a fair opportunity to make a living so she can try to support it. She may end up on government assistance. Cause and Effect. See? You create what you hate.

You cannot, for the sake of profits, ship jobs off to the third world where you can exploit cheap labor and expect to have a population at home who can afford to participate in the type economy you desire. We will be in the unemployment line, not buying your investment property, not buying your products, not eating in your restaurants, unable to afford health insurance. See? You create what you hate.

There are very few who are powerful enough to temporarily evade the effects of their actions. Are you one of those people? How much do you need? How many cars? How many homes? Why do you need so much when you expect some to live with nothing, in fact, perish for all you care?

You’ve forgotten everything you learned in grade school. Your greed is eating us all alive. How can we continue to allow this? WHY should we continue to allow this?

4. Great Piece
You hit a lot of simple contradictions that most conservatives obviously never noticed or cared about.

One thing I always come back to when talking about welfare and other social insurance programs for example is that if you remove a family's lifeline (i.e end welfare payments) and that family is living off of that money you have created a family that is a threat to domestic security.

Why? Because if you have a family with no money and no means of receiving money, chances are that the breadwinner of that family is going to resort to illegal means to feed and support their family.

If my neighbors are forced to resort to selling drugs, I am not going to feel safe in my neighborhood, therefor it is obviously in the best interests of the entire community to support welfare programs which allow these poor people to focus on finding a job and not on making ends meet by any means necessary.

Conservatives and especially libertarians base their entire ideology on the idea that human beings naturally make the right decisions and that if no one tells us what to do we will naturally create the best possible society. Its hard to debate an ideology that is so empirically false from the get-go. I am sure that African Americans in the 50's were perfectly willing to wait for public opinion to shift on civil rights, rather than have the government force people to accept them.
