You know Brittany Murphy's husband got hounded mercilessly after her death
Heartless pricks took to blaming him publicly for her tragic demise, claiming that he didn't care for her enough. Now he's died of a heart attack, I believe from the stress of it all. Folks closest to the couple spoke of their great love and care for each other. Others who had little or no knowledge at all about their relationship took to the media to criticize him in the immediate wake of the tragedy, instead of affording him time to grieve and offering necessary support and sympathy.

I see a lot of that occurring here on this internet forum with folks eager to label and accuse folks they don't know of the worst of offenses with little regard for the human life they're looking to disparage. I hope the sad end to Mrs. Murphy's husband's life will serve as a caution to those who take so much pleasure in posting all sorts of nonsense about personal issues they have no way of actually knowing the truth about.

I'm not optimistic, but I am hoping folks take notice of the shameful accusations this couple had to endure - to the tragic end of both of their precious and important lives - and resolve to take more care in how we treat each other in our conversations here and elsewhere.

2. I can't stand the whole paparazzi mentality.
Los Angeles news is the worst. We get daily doses of the lives of celebrities, simply because they live and work here. When I visit my parents in the San Francisco area, we always comment on how better their news is, without all the movie star nonsense.

And now, we have junk like TMZ to continue this. I really just don't understand it all.

This just makes me sad. How can two people, both under 40, not blood relatives, die of natural causes within months of one another? What are the odds? This is just another tragedy to the previous one.

4. The very ugly reality to being in the public eye--
is the judgmental ignorance that comes with it. All our youth who yearn to see their name in print, who tell everything on Facebook, who have no recognition of the value of privacy-- need to take heed. Celebrity has a very dark side.

10. That is not true. Why do you spread false rumors?

That's low and disgusting.

12. This is very true. They were both on a bunch of medications.
People like you are enablers who think 30 year olds die of "natural causes".

13. It is false and wrong to claim that they both were "drug addicts".

I'm not interested in having this discussion with you though, have a good day, and please don't spread around false rumors.

16. Not really. Do some research and see for yourself.
They had doctors prescribing them hundreds of pills each month under multiple names.

This Simon guy almost died last November of a drug overdose when he had a similar "heart problem" on an airplane and then strangely refused all medical treatment when they arrived at the airport.

They are the prototype of a young Hollywood couple who both die young of suspicious circumstances surrounded by pill bottles.

I can tell you aren't interested in having this discussion because the only facts out there are ones that point at them being drug addicts. Your side of the discussion is 100% compassion and 0% truth.

15. what a load of self-righteous horse shite
You should be ashamed of yourself. You have no clue what you are talking about, but go ahead and continue to throw words around that you do not understand and certainly do not use in their proper context. You have no clue how true co-dependency works if you think the term "enabler' has any real value here other than to justify your own despicable world-view.

You're a clueless jerk.

17. I'm not that clueless - I work in the chemical dependence field and
see cases like this every single day.

My reference to the term "enabler" is not pointed at Brittney Murphy or her husband but to anyone here who claims these two people died of natural causes when they both have a history of seriously abusing prescription drugs.

7. thank you--& a reminder that prominent people we disparage may use this board
Partners and other loved ones of people who are in the public eye read press and online fora, even if the people in question have (usually wisely) stopped doing so. Usually "famous" people, including politicians and staffers who are members here, are doing a job they love that happens to be in the public eye--so they didn't set out to seek fame for its own sake, and their families certainly didn't.

I always ask myself, for ex, am I willing to say something disparaging about John Edwards to his face, or else avoid him entirely if I ran into him at a cocktail party? If not, then I need to shut up about it in an online forum, or else voice it in a way I'd own in a face-to-face setting.

I really wonder how much people who flame away (in the media or on boards--and the two are conflating) would be willing to say any of that to the people they criticize. If not, they need to shut the fuck up.

So thank you so much for your post, and God bless them both.

. . . of the worst this forum offers readers - innuendo and accusations based on opportunistic media reporting. This kind of ignorant meanness is what's keeping me* away from this board these days. To subject oneself to reading the claptrap, voluntarily, is withering - kind of like watching Nancy Grace.

24. It may be harsh,
but it's true. He was almost solely to blame for the downturn of her career. (Studios didn't want to cast her because he was a nuisance on the set) It's too bad, she was a great talent and an ever better human being.

26. it's funny and sad
. . . that those accusations never came from the actress herself, but rather were part of a media-contrived narrative on their lives. Of course, we know better . . . :eyes:
