We should turn over BPs leases to the company with the best record of safety.
Let someone else's experts figure out how to fix this since BP has shown they don't know what they are doing. Anyone with a bad history of violations needs to have their mineral rights revoked.

1. Problem is, they probably hire Transocean and Halliburton any way.
It's a very incestuous industry.

3. Transocean too. Apparently their compliance with regulations is too lax.
Unless they can be honest and truthful when confronted with with stupid and dangerous requests they have no business drilling either.

4. I've got a better idea
1) Keep deep water off shore drilling 100% legal and actually expand the number of available leases by five or sixfold.

2) Pile on the regulations and the compliance requirements to such a high degree, including a $10 billion deposit against any future claims, so that any oil company will reject the notion of deep water drilling as being too costly to consider.

5. I'd rather just get them in line. They never think they are going to have a disaster.
Penalties after the fact don't do much.

2. I was thinking the same thing this morning....
That and prison sentences are the 2x4s needed to get their attention.

6. BP's leases
like any other property they own in the US, is subject to the jurisdiction of our courts. In the end, we will prevail over them as long as the value of their assets is greater than the amount of the damage they caused, plus any punitive damages assessed. We might even be able to enforce judgments in foreign nations that we have reciprocal treaties with.

They're going lose their asses over this, Swiss shell company or not.

9. What was the name of the company that flew its personnel off the site because
BP refused to comply with a safety regulation? That's some integrity - they'd do for starters.
