If Costner's device works....
...another RW meme will be dead.

Just about every RW talk show host has, at one point or another, spent time talking about "Hollywood Elites" who "talk about the world's problems, but never do anything about them."

The irony here is that left wing talk show hosts like Al Franken have decided that they could help their country better by being elected than by sitting in a radio studio for 3 hours a day, while people like Rush, Beck, and Hannity never run for office. And it is not, as Rush's excuse has always been, "because I'd have to take a pay cut."

It's because liberals generally put their money where their mouth is and work to make the world a better place.

Kevin Costner invested $24 million of his own money to pay for the development of machines that clean up oil spills.

Article here:

http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/kevin-costner-could-fix-oil-spill-gulf-mexico-05-22-2010

And these things seem like they'll work. And if they do work..... the Sarah Palin's of the world will have a hard time telling people that they should stop listening to "Hollywood elites".

Maybe these Hollywood liberals... like Kevin Costner... who have put their own millions of dollars on the line to make the world a better place... know what they're talking about every once in a while.

Rush Limbaugh has as much, or more, money than Kevin Costner. Rush Limbaugh could choose to invest that money into things that are positive and could help the world.

Instead, he invests it in trips to carribean islands where he can do things he can't legally do here (let's leave it at that), in his oxycotin drug habit, and in expensive cigars, cheap women, and god knows what else.

Some of Mr. Costner's movies have been sappy. Some have been good.

But the man has put his money where his mouth is... and if his devices clean up the gulf, he should get a dozen Presidential metals and a couple Nobel prizes.

1. I am hoping like heck that it does
not only for the wildlife, but it is great for "hollywood elites".

I wonder how Rush, Beck and Palin would spin it.

2. If this think works, Costner will have done more for the environment then every politician on the
planet combined......

....and that may even include Al Gore.

4. I do hope it works.
I too was thinking how ironic it would be if a "Hollywood elite" saves the day. Heads would explode.

5. Dear God for that reason alone, I hope it works!
Nice in-yer-face back at all those assholes who sneer at Hollywood. Well one of those Hollywood elites just saved the planet and gave your greedy, selfish, short-sighted, rape-and-pillage global-warming-denying ass a little more time to exploit and trash it, 'eh?

Thank you Kevin Costner - putting your money and your creativity where your mouth and our ecosystem both are.

6. I thought this "Costner" device idea was just another cocamamie idea
Edited on Sun May-23-10 12:23 AM by HughMoran
that works on a small scale, but could never be scaled to tackle such a large problem. It may not make a huge difference, but at least he's put a lot of time and money into this.

Oh, and I was going to make a crack about that awful movie "Water World", but that is actually what got him started on this idea! How bizarre.

7. Speaking of sappy movies ...

One of the reasons Costner does those is so he can do things like this. It's the same sort of motivation that fuels Jeff Daniels, who does absolute crap sometimes and then shows a stellar range in difficult roles at others. One of the many things he does is fund a non-profit theater company that gives people who would otherwise have no place to perform a vehicle to showcase their talent.

13. There are plenty of film industry professionals who are good, decent human beings
who work quietly to make the world a better place. Brad Pitt's NOLA housing projects, Elayne Boosler's "tail's of joy" pet rescue organization, Rosie O'Donnell's day are centers for the poor, elizabeth Taylor's NOLA AIDS task force, Sharon Stone's Planet Hope grants for medical and dental care. Repugs are, by nature, Selfservatives. They only give if they know that they'll get something out of it-like a hefty tax break.

17. If it works, Kevin Costner will be so rich that
hopefully, he'll never feel the need to make another movie.

Joking aside, I want something to work and I don't give a damn who comes up with it.

20. Stephen Baldwin is producing a documentary about the oil spill and Costner's device?

Stephen (the right wing freak job) Baldwin?

Anyways, a centrifuge seems like it could work. I wonder why it took a month to get this going.

23. What this really shows is how much can be done, IF a government will invest a little.
It's sad that it's up to private citizens to do the investing in research. The industry and government should be embarrassed.

If this helps clean up BP's mess, then BP should pay for the service. Big time.

I don't think this is what he had in mind when he developed it but even so, it could be adapted. Good post.
