Few BP stations suffer spill backlash
Few BP stations suffer spill backlash

Video of oil-soaked birds and spoiled Alaskan coastlines prompted widespread protests when the Exxon Valdez was making headlines decades ago.

The response to BP's Gulf oil spill so far hasn't been as strong.

No question, plenty of people are unhappy - Otterbein University professor Carmen Galarce among them.

"I used to go regularly to BP because the station is very handy from where I live. Not anymore," said Galarce, a professor of foreign languages who says she's deeply concerned about the environmental impact ."I think the public should express the outrage in some way."

But the level of rancor hasn't reached that of 1989, when Exxon was a dirty word to many.

2. That is because people have realized that it will make no tinker's damned
of a difference.

I get that lesson here in San Diego by I-15 every so often. The distribution plant has no corporate logos. All gas for the county for ALL gas stations goes out of there every morning.

4. And don't forget the other crimes against many people.
And how we can work in better ways to not be part of those crimes.

We know this planet probably won't survive us - and we'll be damned if we let it, either!

If there won't be Hummer H3s and other 6,000 lb. V8 FUVs and 20,000 sq ft McMansions anymore, why should there be any sea otters, or porpoises, or tigers, or egrets, or snail darters, or salmon, or bison, or bluefin tuna, or pandas, or bees, or any of the rest of it? Why should they live to enjoy the world with us gone? We evolved to consume the world, and if it's curtains for us then let the world trip into the grave, too, and pull the dirt over.

6. Good idea. I won't buy gas from them but I will buy my coffee from them. I don't want to hurt
the people who work at these places. It isn't there fault.
