Update: Oil Reports On Fla. Shoreline
Update: Oil Reports On Fla. Shoreline
Local 6 Meteorologist Eric Wilson Blogs About Orlando Weather

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Oil has been reported by Floridians up and down both coasts as of this morning. (See image)

From oil smells to smells of gasoline, it is hard to confirm each and every report; however you can get involved by reporting what you see or smell at a new site.

Many already have, and the list keeps growing. For the latest on where the oil is being reported, to where the oil is expected to be by Monday, check the latest conditions here at Eric Wilson's Oil Spill blog.

Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.

13. Nope!
Not until it's in the Tidal Basin in DC.

Va. is one of the places Obama was to allow off-shore drilling. Between that, and letting the coal companies blow the tops off the Mountains in SW Va, it looks like he's determined to destroy us, and we voted FOR him. God only knows what he'd have done to us if we'd gone for McCain.:grr:

4. The fla peninsula sites are "unaffected area" or "oil smell"
not oil being present.

6. Unrecced. I didn't like that wikipedia-like interactive map when I saw it this morning...and now
it's spreading misinformation.

The red includes "all catagories," which includes unaffected areas.

And now this radio station is taking that image and reporting it as " Oil has been reported by Floridians up and down both coasts as of this morning. (See image)"

Things are bad enough without false information portraying them as worse.

11. I wish I had more than one unrec. THIS NEWS IS INCORRECT...
...see post 6.

The map includes unaffected areas, so the claim that oil has been reported on land up and down the Florida coast is wrong.

And the interactive map it's based on includes unverified reports given online.

In short, it's not "official" and, as seen in this radio station news piece, it's misleading.

12. That map is deceptive - it shows all reports including negative ones
For the break down in what the reports are go to http://oilspill.skytruth.org/main

There they break it down into ll Categories:
Oil in the Water
Oil on Land
Wildlife
Unaffected Area
Trash / Debris - unoiled
Trash / Debris - oiled
Air Quality

ALL the unaffected areas are shown on the map you have, as well as affected area. When I first found the oilspill site above, I was confused by it - that is why I immediately recognized what it was.

18. BP will rely on enormous TONS of toxic dispersants to try and hide/submerge the majority of the oil.
The worse is probably yet to come.
