Bush teases photographer: "Then why didn’t you wear something other than hand-me-down clothes?"

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2007/05/07/queen-elizabeth%e2%80%99s-ahhhhhhh-some-visit/

<snip>

“Bush, grinning broadly after the event, got in one more funny before walking away. ‘This must be a special day,’ he said to Newsweek photographer Charles Ommanney, just as he was slipping behind the gate. The formalities of the day had apparently been lost on Ommanney, who was dressed in ‘photographer-casual.’

‘‘ ‘It is,’ Ommanney said back.

“ ‘Then why didn’t you wear something other than hand-me-down clothes?’ Bush teased.”

3. A hallmark of real class is when you treat everyone with respect
and kindness, regardless of how they are dressed.
To remark on someone's attire to their face is rude.

5. I have to kinda go with Bush on this. (aaaaack!!)
If a photographer is covering a formal event they should at least invest in an inexpensive suit - or even dress pants and a decent shirt rather than a rumpled T shirt, shorts and grummy reeboks.

Having said that - Bush is still a schmuck for calling attention to how a photographer is dressed.

9. unless, of course,
the photographer has several different assignments to cover that day and is leaving this one to go to something that (more than likely) isn't as "dressy". The time spent in changing into one thing and then having to go home (perhaps?) to change into something more casual is time wasted when one is getting the scoop, so to speak. They don't all lead the lives of leisure that our Idiot in Thief does.

16. I don't, for two reasons.
One, Bush is no paragon of elegance. Cowboy boots with a tux, exhibit A. "Commander in Chief," "43," "President George W. Bush" embroidered on everything he wears (probably including his Underoos), exhibit B. Thick-soled (for height?)shitkickers with a dress suit, C.

Two, as others point out, good manners call for his "not seeing" what he considers a breach of etiquette, rather than his embarrassing the guy in public.

And I'm not sure that a photographer attending an event as a journalist rather than as an invited guest should be held to the same standard as the guests, anyway.

Bush's public put-down is a far worse breach of etiquette than the guy's clothing could be.

31. I give photogs more of a break than reporters who may end up on camera
If he was only shooting pictures of the event, then he wasn't going to address RatBastard and Her Highness and therefore probably didn't need to dress up.

That man has absolutely NO CLASS whatsoever.

25. What a "class warfare" loving prick he was talking to a serf in his mind

He believes and has benefited and is entitled to his hereditary status
which he sees himself in the nobility class along side with the royals.
His inferiority showed when he downcast someone he considered a serf
when he didn't even know how to dress himself.

Was the journalist covering it or attending as a guest?

Why should he dress up for the queen, anyway - "if I went 'round sayin' I was Emperor, just because some moistened bink lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!"

37. Removing all other reasons to hate Bush
I mean the war crimes and attacks on our rights etc. besides that...

This need, compulsion, innate desire of his to belittle all of those around him reveals what sick, twisted darkness lies within him. It takes a giant asshole of tremendous proportion to be powerful and attack the powerless.

Can the photographer say Fuck you Mr. President? It manipulates the arrangement where any person in Bush's reach is just another little frog to torture with a firecracker. He humiliates people for his own amusement and his pleasure is fueled by the power he has that they can't defend themselves. It's sadistic and we knew this about him when he gave his first nickname to a reporter, mocked a blind man, massaged the shoulders of a head of state or caressed a bald skull. We don't have king but he is a Royal Asshole.

:grr:
