Bush on Bush: I think ex-president is dropping by the Sonic
Former first lady Laura Bush Friday talked about her love of books, her love of Texas and how she met the man who would become her husband, the president.

Then there was the story about chicken and rice. Turns out that was the meal served at both her rehearsal dinner and, in a not-so-welcome coincidence, at her wedding reception the next day.

At Unity Temple on the Plaza, Bush opted not to talk about any of the monumental decisions her husband made as president as she promoted her new memoir Spoken from the Heart. But she offered that her husband's years as president were "as consequential as about any time in our history."

A discussion of those issues apparently will wait for the ex-president's own book, Decision Points, scheduled to hit bookstores Nov. 9.

Her husband was deeply interested in politics when they first met, Bush said. "I was not."

"I like the life I got, but it wasn't what I dreamed about."

<skip>

Bush didn't hesitate when asked if her husband was doing any cooking while she was away.

"No," she said, adding, "I think he's been picking up from Sonic."

2. Sonic is a blue company
one of the few blue in fast food. I think Arby's is another one.

I kind of like the fact that he's supporting a blue company. It might be the first thing I ever liked about him.

4. One thing we can give him credit for . . .
without having to add a *sarcasm* tag: he dramatically increased U.S. aid to combat poverty, HIV and AIDS in Africa. Perhaps the one thing that stands in sharp contrast to his other, disastrous, policies.

6. And his refusal to support sex education in those countries
contributed to the poverty rate as well as HIV and AIDS.

So this is not really a plus.

8. Yes, that's true
Thanks for bringing that up, proud2BlibKansan. Still a net plus, but you're right--it would have been far more effective if he hadn't undermined his own policy with his other hand.

:hi:

7. More likely ordering his Secret Service Agents to go pick up food from Sonic!
And while they're out, stop by the liquor store and restock the liquor cabinet, too.

ASSHOLE BUSH. Most of the family should probably be in jail.

Having to eat the same meal at your wedding rehearsal and at the wedding! Will no one think of the bridesmaids?

Yeah, Laura, your husband's years as president were "as consequential as about any time in our history" - two wars started, the dollar dropped to an all-time low against the Euro, the national debt increased, Big Oil and Big Banking ran riot over the taxpayers - yup, memorable times.

Is anyone willing to take a bullet and read her book so the rest of us don't have to? I want to know what happened to her gang initiatives but I'm not going to put any money in her pocket.

16. They just stood there! Not a one talked to us. And they all had to walk by us!
It was bizarre. A cop came over and started giving us shit. Then our attorney arrived (yes, our protest group has an attorney we bring along) and he told the officer to go away and do his job. So the cop left.

But those stepford wife morons just stood there and moved their line along, filed past us, and didn't even frown at us or our signs. It was so bizarre.

17. They needed to get their book signed...no time for the reality of torture
and assorted other war crimes. Such things just didn't - and still don't - matter to them.
