Does anyone else here recall the made-for-TV movie
the name of which escapes me but could have been "Special Bulletin" or "Special Report" about the domestic terrorist group which takes a nuclear warhead and holds the government hostage in one of the naval shipyards? It winds up going off because the terrorists, trying brinksmanship, screw up, and the whole metro area of the city is destroyed. (Interesting production - it was given the look of realtime TV as it occurred, and required disclaimers almost continually so it wasn't another War of the Worlds fiasco.)

This, in its own way, is what:

A. BP did to the environment...basically exploiting the situation until the technology failed utterly and totally, and now, no one can stop the destruction, which is going to approach that of Biblical Proportions.

B. The Republican Party is doing to themselves - they allowed the "Tea Party", which is a fully subsidized division, to run amok and now may well fall victim to their particular brand of political and social insanity.

2. I disagree with point A
bp did not use the technology that was available to them..they tried to by-pass it and it bit them and us in the ass.

greed and money is the only thing they think about, nothing else,

3. No, I don't recall the movie
But I also don't believe that no one can do anything to stop the destruction. This country is full of great minds and I'm not talking about the elites that wring hands, make excuses and backroom deals to delay dealing with it. Why no one is doing anything to stop it, is the question that needs to be asked and answered.

5. all 4million gallons a day are washing into the wetlands
what is there a magnet attracting it all to that one place? How about surrounding the wetlands with bails of hay to stop the spread, these are shallow waters, no? Why do we have to wait till it all totally ruined to begin cleaning and preventing it from spreading?
