My coughing had gotten so bad…
That I had to leave our wedding bed to sleep on the couch. Laurie works hard, long hours and deserves her sleep. I have noticed that since I have left the bedroom for the living room, she has been able to sleep much better.

You see when I cannot sleep I read and since I usually cannot sleep for more than a few hours at a time, I get a lot of reading in, especially at night.
She always says that the light doesn’t bother her, but I see how much more rested see seems to be now that I’m not in there coughing and reading till the wee hours of the night.

Out here in the living room, we have a whole wall of floor to ceiling windows. We have a peaked roof that reaches up pretty high. We live on top of a little incline, a ridge really, where Lake Erie use to lap against back when the Great Lakes were full to the brim.

regardless.

i am getting. just a guess.

my husband snores. loud. bad. lol lol. yet i wouldnt want him out of bed for anything. as long as i can go to sleep before the snoring is going, or in between the snoring, it NEVER wakes me up. i dont know why. i can hear the kids. i an hear all kinds of stuff. but if i am alseep, i am never woken with his snoring.

and i am sorry about your cough. must be frustrating. we have had illness in this house the last two weeks. both kids, with a cough.

3. Wow.
Chris, that is beautiful. Your description of your back yard is wonderful; I can see it. The words fall away, and I see the trees swaying...

I read a science book once when I was much younger, and the opening sentence was this: "We live at the bottom of an ocean of air."

Your description fits that, mirrors that perfectly.

I don't agree that you think too much; we all benefit from it.

4. my parents actually made the windows rattle with their snoring and
solved that problem with separate beds in separate rooms. never saw two people love each other more than my mom and dad but they drew the line at snoring.

take care, wcgreen

13. Hubby and I laugh about that, too. Snoring can drive you crazy...
You do what you have to do. Often, it's not easy, but you make arrangements and it all works out...we have and we don't have your issues. But I wish you so MUCH luck and happiness!

5. I'm currently sleeping in the guest room because of flu-based coughing.
My wife and I have an agreement that if one of us is sick, the "healthy" should go to the guest room if we're being kept awake, no apologies or explanations needed. This time we're both sick, and would keep each other awake.

BTW, your blog is terrific.

12. And I assume you've spoken to your Doctor about this? has he given you any helpful
suggestions at all? have you tried speaking to someone knowledgeable who works at a health food store? maybe they have some suggestions using natural methods?

14. There is no use suppressing the cough...
I have a degenerative lung disease that causes massive amounts of mucus to build up.

Simply put, if i don't cough it up I will drown.

There really isn't a natural way to take care of what I have. I have tried pretty much everything. I am in the end stages of this disease and am going to be getting a lung transplant. That is about all that can be done. After that, no coughing and I will be able to breath again

16. The process I am going through is interesting to say the least...
Part of how I get through all this is by sharing my experience. I look at it as a memoir in motion...

18. That's rough
When hubby finally quit smoking he had a horrific cough.
An old Chinese lady told me to buy Tiger Balm and rub it on his back a short before he went to bed since he would cough up the bad stuff and get some sleep. I was actually shocked at how well that worked. It's been six years since he quit smoking and he hardly coughs at all these days, but he still likes Tiger Balm rubs.

I know your situation is more complex than his was but you might want to try the Tiger Balm rub down and cough it all up so that you can have a few cough free hours.

22. Thanks for sharing your blog

It's like a historical journal of life, as you wait for the lung transplant.
