Shades of terror

Wolf Blitzer
CNN

Dear Mr. Blitzer,

Yesterday, you and CNN were all over the story about the conviction of Khalid Ouazzani, an American citizen who donated money to Al Qaeda. While watching, it occurred to me that you do an excellent job of defining what is terrorism and what isn't. Here was a brown guy, a Muslim, who donated $23,000 to Al Qaeda for use overseas. Obviously, he's a terrorist, and you took care to make that clear throughout your broadcast.

There was also a sentencing yesterday you didn't mention. The guilty man's name is Pastor Robert Joos. He's guilty, along with two others, of sending a mail bomb to The Scottsdale City Diversity Office. It was opened by the diversity officer, Don Logan, who sustained major injuries from the explosion. Additionally, one of Joos's congregants, Timothy Coombs, is wanted for the sniper slaying of the officer who arrested Joos--Coombs shot him, pro-life style, through the policeman's kitchen window while he was making a dish of ice cream.

You didn't report that, yesterday. Indeed, you and CNN haven't reported on Joos or his cohorts at any time. And that's why it struck me that you have a keen eye for spotting who qualifies as a terrorist and who doesn't. Khalid Ouazzani, who's swarthy and Muslim, is a terrorist. Pastor Joos, who's blonde, white, and Christian, isn't.

Is that how it works?

Heterosexually yours,

Gen. JC Christian, patriot

3. The problem is, if they actually report on the many incidents of
RW christian terror, it would start to look like a terror movement. Back in the newspaper days stories of a storage unit full of guns and explosives in TX, another one six months later in NC, a mail bomb here, a shooting there, would all be buried on pg 12. But 24 hour news cycles on cable don't allow for such quality reporting, so they just don't get mentioned at all - not if there is a lost child or a missing blonde to report on.

Which is all to the good. Wouldn't want the public to get the impression there is an underground RW terror movement, fueled by established racist groups and dominionist churches, which is finding new legitimacy through the tea party, now would we?

4. White domestic terrorists slip off media’s radar
I guess bombs aren’t sexy enough to warrant national attention anymore. At least, not if the terrorists planting the bombs are white. Here are a couple stories that failed to attract significant coverage, and let me emphasize that these are just two examples I scooped up. One need only spend an afternoon exploring SPLC’s website to observe the surge in far right extremism, so undoubtedly, there are many similar examples.

A firearms and explosives expert suspected of involvement with two white supremacist brothers in the sending of a bomb to the office of a municipal diversity officer was sentenced to 6½ years in prison in Missouri on Tuesday.

Robert Joos Jr. is an anti-government crazy person, and also the pastor of a church of “apocalyptic Christians.” He was convicted in January for possessing firearms and explosives. He and his accomplices, twin brothers Dennis and Daniel Mahon, were indicted for delivering a bomb to diversity officer Don Logan, a black man, who needed extensive surgery for injuries to his hands and arms. Logan’s secretary also suffered injuries to her face and eyes.

Unlike in the case of Faisal Shahzad, this bomb actually detonated — in the hands of a government employee — and the story barely registered on the national media’s radar.

5. Joos gets 6 1/2 year sentence
By John Ford

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —

Self-proclaimed pastor Robert Joos was sentenced Tuesday to six and a half years in a federal prison on charges of illegally possessing firearms and explosives on his 200-acre property near Powell.

Joos received two 78 month sentences from Judge Richard Dorr, who ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

In January, after just nine minutes of deliberation, a federal jury found 56-year-old Joos guilty of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, and one count of being a felon in possession of explosives.

<snip>

Joos has a 1997 felony conviction for unlawful use of a weapon and a 2004 felony conviction for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. Joos contends he was wrongfully convicted. During a 2002 hearing, he told the court he had no intention of obtaining a Missouri driver’s license, saying he is a “servant of God and can have no covenant with the heathen government.” After a court appearance that year, he told a Daily News reporter that he believes he does not have to have a driver’s license as he does not transport goods or people for hire.

6. Joos and his kind are roaches that thrive in the dark.
The Media needs to bring them out into the light and expose them for what they are.

7. F u Wolf, and CNN too, for failure to report with fairness and balance,
for stirring up hatred against one terrorist and those of his color and faith while ignoring the acts of white Christian home-grown terrorists, the epitome of domestic enemies. :grr:

9. Terror
i was in the Boise (Idaho) Airport this weekend and to my horror, every 15 minutes the loudspeakers proclaimed that we were at level ORANGE alert... Strangely that same message was not being broadcast in Seattle's airport.
So I think some factions DO want us all freaked out over terrorism.

15. I wish Homeland Security would go after homegrown terrorists like they do
the Furrin ones. But sometimes, they do - apparently, the proximity of pot to a semi-automatic rifle makes it a security threat.

20. You forgot the biggest difference of all
By doing something bad, the Muslim proved he was a real Muslim.

By doing something bad, the Christian proved he wasn't a REAL Christian at all, therefore there is no religiously inspired terrorism for anybody to report as he's just a criminal not a true Xian believer. True Xian believers don't do anything like this remember!
