I have a suggestion concerning the oil catastrophe
why don't we form a commission of scientists and engineers to tackle the problem as a global disaster, and not wait for BP to come up with its own solution, and then bill BP?

1. And as a global disaster, shouldn't the UN be involved?
This is going to affect other countries soon, likely the whole world later.

2. I was hoping they hadn't actually left it up to BP - that's INSANE...
Aren't scientists appointed by the prez and the Coast Guard also involved?

4. According to a story posted here last night, The Coast G.
Has the important role of seeing to it that our news services do not fly over the disaster area. Our government cannot afford to have BP looking too bad.

7. Because THEN it's the government's responsibility ...And Obama wants NO PART...

of that.

BP caused the spill...BP is responsible for the spill...BP owns the screw ups.

It's a political thing.

8. well, I'm suggesting the bigger picture is the extinction of all sea life
and that is a more weighing concern than politics, or should be.

10. I agree, but that's what we're up against...
As I said on a locked thread: "So if I mow down a bunch of pedestrians, I get to decide if ambulances are allowed in or not?"

It's absurd, irresponsible, but extremely attractive politically.

9. The rest of the world should be jumping down our throats
for the inaction that the U.S. government and people are exhibiting.

And what about BP, Haliburton, Transocean Ltd., and the f'n US Media all trying to minimize the very real danger this spew of seemingly endless toxic oil presents?

Because the ocean will hide much of what is actually occurring, we are diddling about while the planet's ocean's death is exponentially escalated.
