Lieberman Derangement Syndrome? Specter can NOT run as Independent in PA.
This really should not need to be said but, after seeing this question about a dozen times since Sestak's win last night, I have decided to attempt to allay the anxiety once and for all.

There are only 4 states where a candidate who loses their party primary can then run as an Independent in the general election. Here is the relevant information:

In United States politics, a sore-loser law is a law which states that the loser in a primary election can't then run as an independent in the general election. These laws do not apply to presidential candidates <1>. Many states accomplish the same requirement by having simultaneous registration dates for the primary and the general election; in fact only the states of Connecticut, Iowa, New York and Vermont don't have either a sore-loser law or simultaneous registration deadlines..

1. My stupid, stupid state. What is wrong with us anyway. CT really needs
a law like that. Had no idea CT was one of only four!

4. I know, right?
All 4 of the states which allow it ought to be looking at their laws. Point being that what Lieberman did would be a long shot to ever happen again. 46 states forbid it.

6. If only we had that law in place 4 years ago.
I voted for Lamont twice, Primary and the General election. But Lieberman is not liked here much anymore, his approval is way down. Hopefully he just retires.

2. He won't. Already pledged to support Sestak as soon as the vote was called last night
ReTweeted by Rachel Maddow: SenArlenSpecter Congratulations, Congressman Sestak. You have my support for the general election.
