In an interview for CSPAN's
After Words which was broadcast on May 17, 2010 - John Kiriakou, a former CIA officer, stated that the CIA knew that the invasion of Iraq was decided upon by March 2002. Additionally, Cheney's linking of Iraq and Al Qaeda was purportedly known as "...the big lie...." at the CIA, since the CIA knew that there were no connections between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda. These statements are made at the end of the After Words segment; to see them, one should cue the video player to 57 min 48 seconds and watch the remainder of the segment.

Please note the following: One of the main points brought out in the portion of the video that is referenced above is that the invasion of Iraq was accomplished so that the USA could shift a USAF base from Saudi Arabia to Iraq and, thereby, end Bin Laden's use of the claim that the USA were defiling "The Land of the Two Holy Mosques" as propaganda.
Again, how many have died, have been severely wounded or have been displaced on account of this policy decision?
