1. I recall being facinated
by my dark green french coffee cups , when having overlooked they'd got a gold band around the top I microwaved some cold coffee in one of them. Multiple lightening strikes to the rim were the result.

3. In the hospital, we could get people to drink warmed prune juice
when they resisted all laxatives post op, no matter our dire stories of ruptured colons and colostomies (which were true, by the way).

Those damned cups had foil tops and it was impossible to get every scrap of foil off them.

We'd turn the lights out in the kitchenette just to enjoy the show.

Well, if it was a quiet night and we were really, really bored.

A cell phone in a microwave might be good for a fast thrill, but only if you're willing to sacrifice both of them.

2. A couple of other things you don't want to put in the microwave...
Eggs whose yolks have not been pierced first. I'm talking about out of the shell. Don't even THINK about cooking a whole egg (in shell).

And organ meats of any kind unless they're boiled/fried and shredded first, only to be warmed up. Covered.

I would never have thought of putting those in the microwave in the first place except that one of my ovens' user manuals said don't cook those things but didn't say why.

I can't stand being told not to do something without knowing WHY it can't/shouldn't be done.

So I did it.

All I can say is, if you do, be prepared for massive explosions inside your microwave.

I learned so others don't have to. :+

4. Trying to soft boil an egg in a microwave is not a good idea
Edited on Sun May-16-10 10:40 AM by Warpy
Trying to hard boil one is even worse because it's harder to clean.

Brioche doesn't work, either. Thank gawd that kitchen had a skylight we could open.

6. Poached eggs are ok.
Just stick a needle thought the yoke. Give it about 20 seconds or in a cup covered with a saucer and add a tablespoon of water. Might need trial and error to get it perfect. Scrambled eggs are go too in the microwave - two eggs take about 1 minute 30 secs.

5. Oddly enough, carrots can sometimes spark too.
Not big sparks, but little ones. I have no idea why.
