The "Barak the Magic Negro" thing has me infuriated. Why aren't people as upset as they were over Imus' bigotry? Obama now has Secret Service protection, thanks in part, I am sure, to the hate mongering bigotry of Rush. My girlfriend works at a radio station here in this small right wing town of retired military, and I know the station manager, and they won't remove Rush because he is so popular. Then boycott his sponsers! We here at DU know what a hypocritical, lying sack of shit Rush is. Let's get him!

21. That was his ESPN sports commentary spot - he also had a short-lived political TV program
It was really bad and funny in an odd way because the men in the audience were required to wear neckties in a failed attempt to give the crappy program some semblance of class. One didn't need to be a rocket scientist to recognize that many of the men in the audience had never worn a necktie in their life and were out of their element.

16. Good on you...
My son visits corp. pizza joints so infrequently (birthday parties) that he doesn't even have any desire for them. We, exclusively, patronize the locally owned independent pizza parlor because of their superior product (and keep our money in local circulation, to boot).

Hoot, I was just informed that my wife honors my boycott of snapple™ and my twelve-year-old son has never tasted the drink.

37. THe curse of having a moronic base
of pathological losers is that a fair number of them are armed and not well wrapped. And Rushbo is not subtle enough not to eventually piss one of them off, and one is all it will take.

When that day comes, it will be dueling chickenhawks.

that had in it the phrase "Barak the magic negro" and as you can imagine he went to town with it. He had one of his goons make a song out of it. Rush is a lower ape and we should expect this from him, and yes it would be a great idea to boycott his sponsors.

I can't vouch for it's authenticity but I think I remember someone on DU posting they contacted B&N and got a real reply back that they contract their internet advertising with a 3rd party and would contact them and put Rush on the blocked list.

Or was it some other company??

17. His sponsors--the corporate WAR machine.
Hey, that Rush business happened a MONTH BEFORE the three word Imus incident. A month before.

And there's a reason why no one is bugging old Rush...he's a fair haired boy.

See, all of those sponsors, from Proctor and Gamble, to General Electric, to Staples, to Nextel, to AT and T...all those big businesses have PENTAGON contracts in the billions. Yes, with a B.

And Rushie supports the war...no point in making waves about his little "insult"--heck, he's on the "right" team from the view of the sponsors!!

The reason Imus got fired wasn't because of "outrage" alone. If there's no microphone to scream into to express outrage, if there's no talking head interviewing those who were offended, if there's no round-the-clock media coverage of the "offense"--well, there's no "offense" then, is there?

And interestingly enough, in the Imus case, the corporate sponsors had no interest in hearing from those who were insulted before they made their decision. The Rutgers team specifically said they did NOT want Imus to lose his job, but those guys didn't wait to hear what THEY thought--they wanted that guy gone. He was spending too much time calling Cheney a war criminal, using the "IMPEACH" word, and demanding Gonzo be fired to suit them! He HAD to go!!!

Barnes & Noble has had the banner on Limpball's website for a long time. I wrote them outraged that they would be a principal sponsor of such an anti-intellectual site, but of course never heard back. I don't shop there because of it. I consider their sponsorship shocking and unacceptable.

26. Um . . .
That vile song parody was a result of a newspaper column. And I heard it was written by a liberal journalist. (Not sure if that's right.) Anyway, I think because it was based on a newspaper column I think the Pill Popper can get away with it. He'll just point a sausage-like finger at the journalist.

If it is a lib/Dem journo, why oh why would he do that without thinking about the fodder it gives jerks like Pill Popper and the others.

is the writer of the article. He used to post a lot on another website I used to visit but hasn't in recent months. Yes, he is quite liberal and pretty intelligent. Unfortunately, he shouldn't have used the wording because we now have this situation.

If memory serves, I think Spike Lee used the term first in one of his movies. I think the film was "Bamboozled". I'm not sure, though. I will try to find out for sure.

32. He Out There Due To The Lack Of Radio Sponsors
Most stations that carry this asshat's diatribes make little to no money. But they sure save! Instead of having to pay a local body, it's cheaper to hook into a satellite. Radio has dug itself into a major hole that is almost identical to the airline bankruptcies of the early 90s...and the Clear Channels and EIBs are the cause and soon will be its dinosaurs.

The reason the Imus noise got big was his show is seen nationally on TV...Rushbo knows to stay far away from that medium...and he was top rated morning show in the #1 market...a lot different than being the alternative to reading the local obits and school lunch menu.

36. We tried this at DU a few years back and did manage to
get a couple of his sponsors to dump him. As soon as the heat was off, they were back. The way to get rid of Rush is to turn him off and to lobby the dittoheads to turn him off. If his audience dies, so will his show. It's a big order I know but it's the only way.

38. IIRC, one of them was Red Lobster.
I wrote to them, and they wrote back. They basically told me to go fuck myself, though not in so many words. It was a letter along the lines of "We advertise in a lot of places to reach a wide customer base. If you don't like it, well, sorry to lose you as a customer, but don't let the door hit ya!"

You're right about taking away his audience. Best way to do it is with alternative programming that has a greater appeal. Nothing high-falutin' though. Nothing political. Something Howard Stern-ish, frankly. Outrageous; up against the censors wall.

They don't want to hear about the pllight of the poor, or Darfur, or ANYTHING that matters, because they are stupid twits who are selfish and don't give a shit about anyone else. They either want to get riled about slights to their selfish selves (which Rush does--the little man fighting injustice theme) or they want to laugh at stupid jokes and naughty comments about boobies and butts. I say find a couple of apolitical assholes to tell idiotic jokes and do moronic humor and put them smack dab against him. Something fast paced, funny, with lots of musical cuts that keeps the show bouncing along...
